Club members dine together, enjoy local theatre

The autumn events on the Scripps Ranch Welcome Club’s calendar feature day and evening opportunities for gathering with neighbors for good times.

The highlights in October were the Morning Coffee at Jane Weigel’s home early in the month, followed mid-month by a Gadabouts lunch at UTC, and then, toward the end of the month, a potluck supper at Alan Binks’ home before enjoying “Kimberly Akimbo” at Scripps Ranch Theatre. The playgoers were led on a backstage tour of the season’s first production.

The pleasure of reading and discussing books is popular among club members, so Denise Forgeron has started another book club that is taking on new participants.

The Welcome Club’s monthly meeting on the second Monday evening of the month brought out the ladies to create floral Halloween decorations. Sandy Small of the La Jolla Garden Club demonstrated how to combine pinecones, succulents and pumpkins into decorative pieces for members’ homes. The holiday event was given additional flair with a lavish dessert table created by Michelle Cyphers, and it was full of autumn flavors.

November’s calendar will feature the Welcome Club’s regular monthly events along with another potluck followed by the next performance at our local theater.

On Nov. 10, at the monthly meeting at the Community Center, local resident Alex Kecskes will share his experience with his retirement project of authoring and publishing his second novel.
