Farmer’s Market hosts a fashion show Aug. 7

The Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market has long been more than a spot to grab fresh produce, and this summer it’s stepping even further into the spotlight. On Thursday, Aug. 7, the market will host its first-ever fashion event called “The ScrubZ & Style Fashion Show,” a red-carpet runway show featuring 30 models and original designs by local vendors and international designer-producer Jackie Sy of Sy Couture.
The show begins at 5:30 p.m., but market goers are encouraged to arrive early, explore the wide selection of food vendors and find a place to relax before the main event.
“Sy does fashion shows all over. She just came back from the Philippines – and she’s done shows in Paris and London,” said Beverly Cassity, Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market manager. “She was one of my first vendors when I started the market.”
The fashion show runway will run down the center between the vendor booths, framed by a balloon arch. Seating and dining space will be available, and the event is free to the public.
Beyond fashion, the show will spotlight the creativity of market vendors and emerging talent. Sy, a longtime Scripps Ranch resident and entrepreneur, continues to operate a booth at the market where she sells children’s clothing and collectible toys – despite her global reach in fashion.
Cassity said the show will include aspiring models of all ages, including children, many of whom are actively training for professional modeling careers.
“We’re supporting local talent, just like we do every week with our vendors,” she said.
With more than 55 vendors expected that day – including 17 hot food options, crafters, musicians and kids’ activities – the event promises to be a festive, family-friendly evening.
“We want people to come early, grab a meal, find a seat, and enjoy everything we have to offer. The fashion show is just the icing on the cake,” Cassity said. “This is our way of reminding the community that we’re not just a farmers’ market, we’re a family festival – a place where neighbors, coworkers and friends can gather every Thursday, all year long.”
The Aug. 7 fashion show is presented in partnership with Newtopia Cyder and other local sponsors. The Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market and Family Festival is held every Thursday from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 10045 Carroll Canyon Road.
