Philanthropy and preparations for craft fair
By Lois Hager
Great shopping awaits: Mark your calendar for the Kiwanis 2025 Harvest and Holly Market and Bake Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the EBS parking lot. It will feature booths, a variety of exhibitors, handmade crafts and a children’s section. It promises to be a great place to get a jump on your holiday shopping! For information or to reserve a booth, contact Sue Lloyd at suelloyd7@gmail.com.
Backpack Giveaway: In July, Kiwanis helped out Your Safe Place in a Backpack Giveaway for children. Your Safe Place provides counseling, legal services, supplies and more to families facing difficult or abusive home environments. We packed backpacks with school supplies and assisted at the July 23 event. Kids were excited to pick out their backpacks, and we kept the refreshments coming!
Kiwanis contributes:
• On Aug. 19, Kiwanis helped Just in Time pack self-care kits for their My Life, My Story workshop. Just in Time provides services for young people who have aged out of the foster care system. The goals of this workshop were to help participants with confidence, communication skills and personal growth.
• At a summer club meeting, we heard an update from Feeding San Diego CEO Bob Kamensky about their activities. We contributed a donation to the organization and scheduled our next volunteer day. On Aug. 23 we helped pass out food to families at their Produce Pantry in Sorrento Valley.
The Kiwanis Club of Scripps Ranch is a local volunteer organization supporting kids and our community. We meet at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month.
