Help keep SR wildfire-ready
By Dave Mason
Fire Safe Council
In October 2003, the Cedar Fire changed Scripps Ranch forever, destroying 312 homes and stopping just 70 feet from entering Chimney Canyon. A firefighter noted that, had it reached the canyon, up to 200 additional homes could have been lost.
In the aftermath, concerned neighbors came together to form what is now the Scripps Ranch Fire Safe Council – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to helping our community stay informed, prepared and resilient in the face of wildfire risk. While we hope we never face such a fire again, Scripps Ranch remains in one of the most wildfire-prone regions in the country. That’s why preparation, education and neighborhood involvement are so important.
We’re looking for volunteers who want to be part of this mission. If you can contribute a few hours a month, offer a helpful skill or simply care about the safety of our community, there’s a place for you.
We’re especially in need of:
• People with experience in communications, outreach or social media
• Volunteers for event planning and fundraising
• Advice on brush management, landscaping or basic home safety tasks
• And anyone who wants to be part of a caring, proactive community effort
Every contribution – big or small – makes a difference. Together, we can help ensure Scripps Ranch is ready for whatever comes our way.
