PSAT: Wednesday, Oct. 11 is the day for the PSAT and is also a minimum day. Students taking the exam will be notified of what room to report to on Wednesday. Students will be finished with the test by 11:30 a.m. and proceed to lunch.  School will end at noon this Wednesday.

Marching Band earns top trophies: The Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) Marching Band captured the top trophies in the 20th Annual SRHS Marching Band & Color Guard Tournament on Saturday night, Oct. 7. SRHS won the AAAA Division and earned top overall Music Performance, best Visual Performance, top Music Effect Performance and was the overall Tournament Champion.

SRHS science writers selected: Poorvi Datta, Alina Luk, Melba Nuzen and Isa Stelter were selected as contributing writers in the latest edition of the Journal of Youths in Science (Journys). Each of their articles was selected for publication from a substantial group of scientific authors throughout San Diego County.

Application for Federal Student Aid: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid form is available for seniors now until March 2. Visit https://fafsa.ed.gov. All students are encouraged to apply regardless of post high school plans.

College Labs: College Labs for seniors are open on Mondays and Wednesdays after school in room 841 through Nov. 15. Counselors will be available to assist and proofread applications. English teachers will also be available to assist with college application essays.

Dingeman/SRCA Scholarship: The Bob Dingeman/Scripps Ranch Civic Association Scholarship for 2017-18 is open to Scripps Ranch High seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a history of outstanding community volunteer service in the tradition of Col. Dingeman, “Mr. Scripps Ranch.” Up to three students may be awarded $1,000. Applications are due Oct. 17 at 9 p.m.

AP refund update: The San Diego Unified School District will now refund the handling/processing fees for last May’s AP test refunds. A list of students has been supplied to the Ed Center, and they will secure the correct name and address for the check, and begin to mail the refunds.

Senior Pictures: Oct. 14 is the last day to have senior portraits taken at Prestige Portraits for inclusion in the yearbook. ID Card pictures are not used for the yearbook. You must have a formal portrait taken. Students who have taken their portraits have until Nov. 3 to make their selection online; otherwise it will be picked by the studio. For those who have not taken a senior portrait and want to be included in the yearbook, a photographer will be on campus Oct. 10 and 17 to take a yearbook pose only. They will provide coats and drapes. In order to be put on the shoot list, seniors must sign up with Ms. Brady in Room 426, to be put on the schedule. This is the last chance to have a senior photo for the yearbook. Contact Prestige Portraits, (858) 935-6969.

Seniors who had portraits taken at other studios must bring in a disk with their portrait from their photographer in order to be included in the yearbook. The deadline is Oct. 27.

Senior Baby Pictures are being collected until Oct. 29. Pictures must be submitted on CD or USB thumb drive. See Ms. Brady in Room 426 for questions.

Senior Ads are on sale at the finance office until Nov. 9. Pick up a flyer in Room 426 or at the finance office. Ads will not be due until Jan. 12, but need to be purchased by Nov. 9 to save space in the yearbook for them.

Marching Band Pancake Breakfast
The Scripps Ranch Marching Band will hold a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s, 9480 Mira Mesa Blvd., on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 each, and half of the ticket sales benefit the music program. Purchase a ticket from any marching band member, from Mr. Shedd during school hours at the Band Room or at the door. The marching band program will use the funds raised to pay for new equipment.

MMO Logo Contest Winner: Seventh-grader Daniel Stankoulov is the winner of the Marshall Mustang Organization (MMO) Logo Contest. Daniel’s logo will grace the MMO website for this year and many years to come. The MMO thanks all of the talented students for their entries. All who participated will receive a small token of appreciation which will be delivered to one of their classrooms.

Theatre Fund Drive: Marshall Mustang Theatre is in the midst of its fund drive. The program relies on support from the community to continue including performing arts in the students’ educations. Donations will go toward costumes, production costs, equipment costs and props. Visit bit.ly/2fhynRq.

Pledge Drive: The annual Dingeman Pledge Drive has started. Every year, the FFC provides critical support for the school in a variety of ways such as arts and STEAM enrichment, playground equipment and more. Fifth Grade Family Science Night: Thursday, Oct. 12 is Fifth Grade Family Science Night at Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room.

Box Top Collection: Box Top collection is underway through Friday, Oct. 13. Last year the school raised more than $1,800. The class with the most Box Tops will get a popsicle party. Put your child’s collected Box Tops into a baggie with their name on it and deliver to the classroom teacher.

Pledge Drive: The Innovations Academy (IA) pledge drive is up and running. Any donation is a great donation because 100 percent participation from IA families demonstrates to grantors, the school district and other potential partners how committed IA families are to this school. These funds will go toward a sound system for performing arts and toward getting the bus moving.

Restaurant Night: Eat at Jersey Mike’s Subs, 12285 Scripps Poway Parkway, on Thursday, Oct. 12 to raise funds for Jerabek Elementary. Jersey Mike’s is offering a free regular sub sandwich on Thursday to any customer who donates a minimum of $4 to Jerabek Elementary at the restaurant.

Box Top time: The first Box Top collection week of the year is coming up Oct. 16-25. Scour your house for Box Tops. They can be found on Ziplock boxes, Gogurt, Campbell’s soup cans and many other items in your cupboard. Collecting Box Tops is an easy way to raise money for Jerabek. The money collected from turning in Box Tops will be used to buy playground equipment, and help fund Family Math and Science nights. Classrooms that bring in the most Box Tops will be awarded a trophy and a popsicle party. Results will be posted on the FFO bulletin board.

Every classroom has a Box Top container/bag/envelope that your child can place their Box Tops in. Box Tops must have valid dates. Also, they must be trimmed where indicated by the dashed lines. Room parents or a designated parent from your child’s class can bundle the Box Tops into groups of 50 and place in baggies.

Super Pledge: The Jerabek pledge drive is the FFO’s largest fundraiser of the entire year with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the school. The FFO encourages every family to participate in the Pledge Drive. This year, Jerabek FFO is committed to contributing​ ​$120,000​ to fund and or subsidize specific staff positions and school programs. Visit bit.ly/2f36kbF.

Picture Day Make-Up: Students who did not have their pictures taken during the original Picture Day may have their photos taken Wednesday, Oct. 11.

Halloween Carnival pre-sale tickets: Discounted pre-sale game tickets for the annual Halloween Carnival, to be held Oct. 21, are on sale now through Monday, Oct. 16. Pre-sale tickets purchased online will be delivered to your child’s classroom on Wednesday, Oct. 18. Pre-sale tickets will also be available for purchase before and after school on Friday Oct. 13, Thursday Oct. 19 and Friday Oct. 20.

Box Tops: Each year, Miramar Ranch Elementary earns more than $1,000 just by collecting Box Tops. Here is how you can help:

Parents, start to collect Box Tops, found on all kinds of products from cereal to tissues and everything in between. Place your Box Tops into Ziploc bags or envelopes and put your child’s name and teacher’s name on it. There is a collection box in each classroom. The school cannot accept expired Box Tops. Visit www.btfe.com for a list of participating items, fun printable collection sheets and how to earn bonus Box Tops simply by scanning your receipt. There will be a fall contest and a spring contest, so be sure to keep clipping year-round.

Jr. ROTC will speak at Miramar Ranch Elementary
Members of the Scripps Ranch High School Jr. ROTC program are scheduled to speak to fifth graders at Miramar Ranch Elementary School about cyber-bullying and internet safety at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the Multi-Purpose Room.
