Hot, dry weather expected this week
Today is another hot one with temperatures running 10 to 15 degrees above normal west of the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.

High pressure aloft will continue hot and very dry weather through Tuesday with high temperatures in the valleys and inland coastal areas in the 90s to around 100. Cooling will begin to spread inland with onshore flow Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday with greater cooling on Thursday and Friday as a trough of low pressure moves inland along the West Coast.

Humidity will be extremely low again today and tomorrow. Fire danger is high, although winds are relatively calm.

This afternoon is sunny, with a high near 93 expected. Northwest winds will be 5 to 10 mph. Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 67. Northwest wind around 5 mph will become calm after midnight.

Dingeman Family Dinner Night
Dingeman Elementary School will hold a Family Dinner Night at Rubios, 10785 Scripps Poway Parkway, on Thursday, Oct 19. Order a meal at Rubios between from 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. and present the flyer found at this link: dingeman.net/Home. Rubios will donate 20 percent of the proceeds from your meal to Dingeman Elementary School.

EBS Elementary holds Fall Family Festival
Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School will hold its Fall Family Festival on Friday, Oct. 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 11778 Cypress Canyon Road. The public is invited to this school fundraising event. Enjoy games, food, face painting, a costume parade, a silent auction and a cake walk. Students may wear their Halloween costumes and have their picture taken with the Super Penguin.

SRHS Marching Band Pancake Breakfast
The Scripps High School Ranch Marching Band will hold a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s, 9480 Mira Mesa Blvd., on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 each, and half of the ticket sales benefit the music program. Purchase a ticket from any marching band member, from Mr. Shedd during school hours at the Band Room or at the door. The marching band program will use the funds raised to pay for new equipment.

SR Active Singles plan hike
The Scripps Ranch Active Singles group is planning a flexible hike through Blue Sky Preserve on Saturday, Oct. 21 beginning at 9:30 a.m. Depending on the size for the group, the hike will either be 5.5 miles or a shorter, steeper 4.8 miles to Lake Ramona or a much shorter easy 2-mile hike that doesn’t go up to either Lake.  Meet at the trailhead/gate at the Blue Sky Preserve, 16275 Espola Road in Poway. Please note that the group waits no longer than 10 minutes past the start time before beginning the hike. RSVP and request final start time at activesrsingles@gmail.com.

Pack 1216 holds meeting
Scripps Ranch Boy Scout Pack 1216 will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Miramar Ranch Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room. The theme for the meeting will revolve around first responders. The two guest speakers will be former firefighter and paramedic Colin Kennedy, and former San Diego Police Officer Bob Ilko. Activities will include a fun obstacle course, games, a creative snack and a raffle.
