Golf Champions: The Falcons women’s varsity golf team completed an undefeated season, 22-0, the first time in school history. The team won the 2017 City Conference Championship for the second year in a row. The golfers shot a team score of 402 at the San Diego City Conference Golf Championship at the Balboa Park Golf Course to capture the title. The Lady Falcons are also the 2017 Western League Champions, capturing that title for the first time in school history.

Marching Band Pancake Breakfast
The Scripps Ranch High School Marching Band will hold a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s, 9480 Mira Mesa Blvd., on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. Tickets are $10 each, and half of the ticket sales will benefit the music program. Purchase a ticket from any marching band member, from Mr. Shedd during school hours at the Band Room or at the door. The marching band program will use the funds raised to pay for new equipment.

College Fair: More than 100 colleges will be represented and various college readiness workshops will be held at the fair for high school students and parents on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 6-8 p.m. at the Scottish Rite Center, 1895 Camino del Rio South. Parking and admissions are free. Parents and students do not need to pre-register.

Application for Federal Student Aid: The Free Application for Federal Student Aid form is available for seniors now until March 2. Visit https://fafsa.ed.gov/. All students are encouraged to apply regardless of post high school plans.

College Labs: College labs for seniors are open on Mondays and Wednesdays after school in room 841 through Nov. 15. Counselors will be available to assist and proofread applications. English teachers will also be available to assist with college application essays.

Dingeman/SRCA Scholarship: The Bob Dingeman/Scripps Ranch Civic Association Scholarship for 2017-18 is open to Scripps Ranch High seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a history of outstanding community volunteer service in the tradition of Col. Bob Dingeman, “Mr. Scripps Ranch.” Up to three students may be awarded $1,000. Applications are due Oct. 17 at 9 p.m.

Grade 4 Family Science Night: Thursday, Oct. 19 is Family Science Night for fourth graders starting at 6.30 p.m. Be part of a crime scene investigation team and learn how to analyze physical and chemical evidence, conduct blood typing tests, and more.

Picture Day:  Wednesday, Oct. 18 is Dingeman Elementary Picture Day. Bring out your best smiles. A make-up Picture Day will be held on Friday, Oct. 27 if your child misses this week’s Picture Day.

Have Lunch with Your Child Week: Visit Dingeman Elementary one day on the week of Oct. 23-27 to have lunch with your child. Here is the lunch schedule: first grade, 12:30 p.m.; second and third grades, 12:35 p.m.; kindergarten, 1:10 p.m.; fourth and fifth grade, 1:15 p.m.

Pledge Drive: The annual Dingeman Pledge Drive is underway. Every year, the FFC provides critical support for the school in a variety of ways such as arts and STEAM enrichment, playground equipment and more. Miss Ellen’s Birthday: Celebrate the Birthday of Ellen Browning Scripps at an all-school assembly on Wednesday, Oct. 18, starting at 8:50 a.m. Students and faculty will gather on the blacktop.

Fall Family Festival: Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary will hold its Fall Family Festival on Friday, Oct. 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at 11778 Cypress Canyon Road. Enjoy games, food, face painting, a costume parade, a silent auction and a cake walk. Students may wear their Halloween costumes and have their picture taken with the Super Penguin.

Food vendors that are frequently found at the Scripps Ranch Farmer’s Market will be onsite during the event. They will be donating a portion of their proceeds back to EBS at the end of the night.

Talented EBS face painters will adorn your child’s face with a picture of their choice. A silhouette artist will be onsite to create a silhouette of your child’s face to take home. Purchase Spirit Wear or buy Hand Tiles to place your child’s handprint in the courtyard at EBS. Children can dress in their Halloween costume and follow the parade leader around the school grounds for the Costume Parade.

Enter the pumpkin decorating contest. Register your pre-decorated pumpkin by 6 p.m. Stop by to check out the pumpkins and vote for your favorite. Votes will be tallied per grade and announced around 7:30 p.m. In addition to the many baskets for sale at the silent auction, there will also be Principal and Teacher Playdate auctions going on in the Multi-Purpose Room during the event.

Middle School Sex Ed. Program Informational Meeting: On Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. there will be a meeting for parents who wish to speak with the doctor who will be giving the sex education classes this year for the middle schoolers. There will be information about the program, resources for parents to speak with their children about this topic, as well as information about suicide prevention, Title IX and the IA academic curriculum this year. Drinks and snacks will be available.

School Picture Days: School photo dates this year will be on Oct. 26 and 27, and again on Nov. 2 and 3.

Kindergarten Hurricane Victim Support Project: The Kindergartners of Gaby’s and Carolina’s class (Room 403) are collecting items for hurricane victims through Oct. 31. Bring in donations of toiletries, clothes and small toys.

Kindness Week: This is Kindness Week at Jerabek. “Kindness in Mind” classroom activities will be underway all week long including class read aloud, craft projects, playground chalk art creations, mindfulness exercises and more. Throughout the week, kids and teachers can keep an eye out and catch others being kind. The “Caught Being Kind” tags (tear off tags found on fliers around the school) can be redeemed by the recipient after school at the Kindness Squad tables for a Special Gift.

A Kindness Rally and Popsicle Dance party will be held Friday, Oct. 20 from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m. Parents are welcome. Please ask your student to wear their new Kindness Squad Jerabek T-shirt (or any green shirt). T-shirts are on sale before and after school on Wednesday.

Science Night: Fifth Grade Science Night will be held Thursday, Oct. 18, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Minimum Day: Tuesday, Oct. 24 is a minimum day. School will be in session from 8:35 a.m. until 12:25 p.m.

Box Top time: The Box Top collection is underway now until Wednesday, Oct. 25. Scour your house for Box Tops. They can be found on Ziploc boxes, Gogurt, Campbell’s soup cans and many other items in your cupboard. Collecting Box Tops is an easy way to raise money for Jerabek. The money collected from turning in Box Tops will be used to buy playground equipment, and help fund Family Math and Science nights. Classrooms that bring in the most Box Tops will be awarded a trophy and a popsicle party. Results will be posted on the FFO bulletin board.

Every classroom has a Box Top container/bag/envelope that your child can place their Box Tops in. Box Tops must have valid dates. Also, they must be trimmed where indicated by the dashed lines. Room parents or a designated parent from your child’s class can bundle the Box Tops into groups of 50 and place in baggies.

Family Art Night: Create memories on Family Art Night, Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Jerabek Auditorium. There will be three projects for every ability. Art Corps Workshop leaders (not volunteers) will lead participants through a fun night of creating together. Those interested need only register and show up with their family. All supplies are provided. To sign up, return the form in your student’s take home folder by Monday, Oct. 23. For questions contact jerabekartcorps@gmail.com.

Super Pledge: The Jerabek pledge drive is the FFO’s largest fundraiser of the entire year with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to the school. The FFO encourages every family to participate in the Pledge Drive. Restaurant Night: Miramar Ranch Elementary Restaurant Night will be held Thursday, Oct. 19 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Calibanzo Hummus and Grill, 9880 Hibert St. in the Trader Joe’s Shopping Center. When MRE family and friends eat at Calibanzo this Thursday, the school raises funds for MRE programs that the district and the state can’t fund. Halloween Carnival: “Halloween Town” is the theme of this year’s Miramar Ranch Elementary School Halloween Carnival. The 44th annual event, Scripps Ranch’s longest-running Halloween festival, will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The “Halloween Town” carnival will feature a cake walk, bake sale, haunted house, silent auction, sand art, nail painting, face painting, a used book sale, more than 25 carnival games, laser tag, dodge ball, a pumpkin patch, balloon animals, a live DJ, fun contests, a raffle, carnival goodies and a prize booth. A costume contest for children in grades TK to fifth will begin at 1 p.m.

Pre-sale tickets will available for purchase before and after school on Thursday Oct. 19 and Friday Oct. 20.

A special Haunted House-only preview will be held on Friday, Oct. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Book donations needed for Carnival book sale: The school needs donations of used books to make the annual Halloween Carnival book sale a success. Bring your donation of any books, CDs, DVDs or puzzles to the book box by the front office hallway or in your child’s classroom. Books will be collected through Thursday, Oct. 19.

Bake Sale, Cake Walk & Cake Decorating Contest: Show off your cake decorating talent and help celebrate the 44th annual Halloween Carnival. Bring your delicious treats and all cakes to the Teacher’s Lounge before the end of school on Friday, Oct. 20. Package your items in twos or threes, and securely wrap them, ready to sell in individual portions. Put the student’s name and their teacher’s name on all trays, bowls or plates that you would like returned to you. Decorate and submit a cake for the carnival cake decorating contest and clearly mark each submission with the decorator’s name, age and teacher. Prizes will be given to the best cake decorated by an adult and best cake decorated by a MRE student. Winners will be announced at the carnival. Box Tops: Each year, Miramar Ranch Elementary earns more than $1,000 just by collecting Box Tops. Here is how you can help:
Parents, start to collect Box Tops, found on all kinds of products from cereal to tissues and everything in between. Place your Box Tops into Ziploc bags or envelopes and put your child’s name and teacher’s name on it. There is a collection box in each classroom. The school cannot accept expired Box Tops. Visit www.btfe.com for a list of participating items, fun printable collection sheets and how to earn bonus Box Tops simply by scanning your receipt. There will be a fall contest and a spring contest, so be sure to keep clipping year-round.

Members of the Scripps Ranch High School Jr. ROTC program are scheduled to speak to fifth graders at Miramar Ranch Elementary School about cyber-bullying and internet safety at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the Multi-Purpose Room.
