Fall Band Performance was sensational
Student musicians in Intermediate Band and Advanced Band from the Marshall Middle School Instrumental Music Program performed in a sensational Fall Band Concert on Wednesday night, Oct. 25 in the school’s Performing Arts Center.
Students in both bands, under the direction of Cameron Brown, offered nearly flawless performances. All musical renditions on this evening stuck with a seasonal Halloween theme, complete with colorful images projected against the background behind the bands.
Some of the young musicians demonstrated their musical agility, often moving about between each rendition, changing stations to play different instruments.
Select students read complex descriptions of the upcoming music during interludes, each showing substantial confidence.
The musical selections were appropriately chosen for the spooky autumnal season. Intermediate Band performed “Midnight Madness,” “Ogopogo,” “Sneaky Sneaky” and “Zombie Stomp.” Tyler Johnson, a student teacher from San Diego State University, was guest conductor for the Intermediate Band’s performance of “Ogopogo.”
Advanced Band performed “The Darklands Symphony,” including “March Through the Black Forest,” “Dance of the Mad Prince,” “The Serpent Prince and the Black Bell,” “The Queen’s Masque” and “Escape from the Dark Heart Castle.”
Applause from the audience was often and sincere, based on the students’ ability, discipline and obvious knowledge of their craft learned through the classes of the Marshall Instrumental Music Program. All in all, both performances were very impressive, especially considering the ages of the young musicians.
Each band, in turn, gleefully accepted an enthusiastic ovation from the audience upon completion of their performance.
An Orchestra Concert will be held on Thursday night, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center.
