Lady Falcons fall in quarterfinals
The Scripps Ranch High School girls basketball team lost to Serra High School 48-56 on Friday, Feb. 15, in the quarterfinals of the Division 1 CIF San Diego Section 2019 Girls Basketball Championships.
It was a well-fought game. Scripps Ranch was up at halftime but couldn’t hold on to that lead for the duration of the game. Regulation play ended with a 48-48 tie, sending the game into overtime.
The Serra High defense dominated during the four-minute overtime, not letting Scripps Ranch score even once. Serra’s offense put up 8 points to win the game 48-56. The loss ended championship hopes for the Lady Falcons this year, but the playoffs were not without bright moments, including a 52-27 victory for Scripps Ranch in first-round play against Eastlake High on Feb. 12.
