Bob Dingeman: 1922-2019

Bob Dingeman, known as Mr. Scripps Ranch because of his extensive activities as a civic leader in this community, passed away this weekend.

Dingeman was born in 1922 on the Island of Corregidor in the Philippines where his father was stationed as a U.S. Army officer. Later, he was present during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.

He was a graduate of West Point military academy. Dingeman served in the U.S. Army in WWII, fought in the Korean War and in Vietnam. He retired from the Army having earned most of the military’s highest medals for service, heroism, sacrifice and accomplishments.

Upon retirement, Dingeman and his wife, Gaye, toured the United States, eventually settling in Scripps Ranch.

As a civilian, Dingeman put his vast military experience and advanced education to work. He taught at Miramar College, and also became a member of many volunteer civic committees.

He is best known for his work on local planning committees and from leading the Scripps Ranch Civic Association to prominence.

Dingeman has been awarded numerous community and city awards. The San Diego City Council has honored him by declaring a “Bob Dingeman Day” in his honor on many occasions. He accomplished so much for his community as a citizen volunteer and leader that the San Diego Unified School District named a Scripps Ranch school in his honor when it opened in 1995: Dingeman Elementary School.

Col. Bob Dingeman is survived by his wife Gaye; son Dr. Robert D. Dingeman; daughter Susan C. Dingeman; as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.
