Hot and windy week increases fire danger
The National Weather Service issued both a Heat and Wind Advisory for San Diego County, which signals both high wildfire danger as well as health concerns.
The Heat Advisory is effect now through 6 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
The Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday, April 7.
Expect east winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 45 mph in some areas. Temperatures are expected to reach 86 to 93 today and 92 to 98 on Thursday and Friday in San Diego County inland valleys. Thursday and Friday are expected to be the hottest days.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur.
Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the midday sun. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1.
