Governor announces Stage 2 openings
(May 4) Today, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced his intentions to execute “Stage 2” of openings of the state, including loosening of closures for some businesses that have been shut down during the COVID-19 crisis.
The state will begin to gradually move into Stage 2 this Friday, May 8, Newsom said. This will include some sectors, like retail and manufacturing/logistics, in which there is a lower risk of transmission along with the ability to adapt and re-open with modifications.
This would include businesses such as clothing stores, florists, bookstores and sporting goods stores – all with curbside pick-up.
Stage 2 would not include the physical opening of businesses such as offices (although employees can continue to telework), restaurants (for seated dining) and shopping malls.
