Black Lives Matter demonstration
The public is invited to participate in a peaceful demonstration supporting equality and the Black Lives Matter movement at Jerabek Park, 101050 Avenida Magnifica, starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Participants are encouraged to wear masks, bring water and signs. Those attending may bring artwork, read poems and make speeches.
Bikers Against Racism
Hosted by Ken Pearcy and San Diego Motorcycle Riders Meet and Ride, bikers are welcome to join a ride against racism, beginning in Scripps Ranch at the cul’ de sac at Falcon Way beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday, July 19.
This ride is not sanctioned or affiliated with any group. It’s organized by Scripps Ranch resident Ken Pearcy, seeking riders interested in advocating for equality and against racism. There will be BLM signs but it is not a BLM sanctioned event.
Anyone that would like to show support is welcome. Any biker or any club/rider group is welcome.
This will be a short ride about the Scripps Ranch neighborhood. Here is planned the route:

Scripps Ranch cases increase
The County of San Diego reported total cases of coronavirus in the 92131 ZIP Code area of Scripps Ranch increased to 88 cases. That’s an increase of 20 cases in one week; the highest local weekly increase so far. Total cases in Mira Mesa rose to 269. Poway has 146 total cases. San Diego County reports the cases, broken down by residence listed for each patient.

Koala Joey turns 1 at SD Zoo
Omeo (pronounced Ooh-me-ooh), a male koala at the San Diego Zoo, turned 1 year old July 15 and received a special birthday celebration, complete with a heart-shaped ice cake made with natural flowers, and “presents.” This milestone birthday is extra special, as the young joey lost his mother due to cancer when he was about 5-and-a-half months old and still in her pouch. To save the joey’s life, Zoo veterinarians and wildlife care specialists intervened, feeding and caring for the little marsupial round the clock, and tending to his every need.
Wildlife care specialists decorated the koala habitat with a number 1 made of eucalyptus wrapped in raffia, a very large eucalyptus bouquet, and eucalyptus branches, melaleuca branches, bottlebrush and other Australian flowers. The birthday joey curiously looked at the items before energetically climbing on branches.
