SR WEEKEND & NEWS UPDATE

Governor signs order to halt business evictions
(Sept. 23) California Governor Gavin Newsom signed an executive order to extend authorization for local governments to halt evictions for commercial renters impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through March 31, 2021, and address a variety of issues in response to the pandemic.

To protect local health officers and other public health officials on the front lines of the fight against the virus, the order permits these individuals to participate in the Secretary of State’s address-confidentiality program. The order also allows the Department of Managed Health Care to gather information to assess the impacts of the pandemic on health care providers and health care service plans.

Additionally, the order extends provisions allowing certain posting, filing and notice requirements under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) to be fulfilled electronically.

Jerabek holds Movie Night
Jerabek Elementary School will hold a virtual Movie Night on Saturday, Sept. 26. All families with students at Jerabek Elementary are invited to access the Walt Disney Pictures film “Up” from the safety of their home on Sept. 26.

Bags of popcorn will be available for pickup from the school earlier. The Kona Ice truck will be visiting the basic vicinity in which Jerabek Elementary students reside during the evening. In addition, Jerabek Elementary will send a special message video to start the school year to all Jerabek families, complete with words of encouragement from celebrities, according to parent volunteer Laura Kay Stephens.

This event is the school’s traditional kick-off for the school year – a welcome back for all the families, Stephens said.

For more information, Jerabek Elementary families can visit the Jerabek News Facebook page and also look for an email message from the principal.

MRE sets Restaurant Night fundraiser
Miramar Ranch Elementary School (MRE) will hold its first Restaurant Night fundraiser of the year on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m.-8 p.m., at Flippin’ Pizza,10006 Scripps Ranch Blvd.
Place your order online (https://flippinpizza.com/) and enter “Miramar Ranch” in the Special Instructions or call (858) 860-5007 any time during the day for a designated time. COVID-19 in Scripps Ranch
Total cases of coronavirus reported in the Scripps Ranch 92131 ZIP Code area this week rose to 193 total cases. That’s an increase of six cases in the past week in Scripps Ranch, a big improvement from the 22 cases the previous week.

The County of San Diego reported 548 total cases recorded in Mira Mesa and 297 total cases in Poway. San Diego County reports the cases, broken down by community residence listed for each patient.

These are the total tabulated cases in each ZIP Code area since the County began tracking cases in March. It does not reflect those who recovered, nor does it account for those who died from COVID-19. The County of San Diego does not provide those statistics at this point.

Rotary Club plans blood drive
The Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps is sponsoring a blood drive for the San Diego Blood Bank on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Vons Shopping Center parking lot, 10675 Scripps Poway Parkway. Those wishing to donate blood may make an appointment right away at mysdbb.org/schedule or by calling 1-800-4MYSDBB. An appointment and photo ID are required to donate blood. Those donating blood are to arrive hydrated to their appointment.

Wolff performs live concert
Scripps Ranch rock musician Steve Wolff will perform a StreetJelly “Live from the Lockdown” concert for about an hour starting at 5:30 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 27. He will do a blend of covers and originals.

San Diego Words & Pictures – www.sdwordsandpictures.com – is a new multimedia website and social media network showcasing the best of San Diego.
