Firefighting choppers replenish at reservoir
Firefighting helicopters from the San Diego Fire Department, the San Diego County Sheriffs department and SDG&E descended and hovered above the surface of Miramar Reservoir in Scripps Ranch to replenish their water which they used to drop on a brushfire on Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar the afternoon of June 8.
News reports stated that a planned controlled burn at MCAS jumped its lines shortly after 2 p.m. east of Kearny Villa Road.
Smoke from the brushfire could be observed in the far distance from the rough upper parking lot between Marshall Middle School and Alliant International University. Flashing lights from firefighting vehicles could barely be seen from this vantage point, as could several water drops from the three helicopters. The wind was blowing the smoke eastward and the blaze never threatened Scripps Ranch communities.
The fire was eventually contained and firefighting helicopters ended their water replenishment activities over Miramar Reservoir at 5:03 p.m.
