SRHS wrestlers having an incredible season

Scripps Ranch High School wrestlers are enjoying the benefits of a strong program which includes great coaching, supportive parents and fans.

The team will celebrate Senor Night starting at 5 p.m. on Jan. 29 in the school gym as the team hosts Crawford High School.

Here is a brief review of some of the team’s varsity matches in January:

Warriors of the West

The Lady Falcons rolled into Clairemont with a purpose for the Warriors of the West Girls Tournament on Jan. 4, taking home fourth overall as a team.

Mission Hills Varsity Boys Tournament

Falcons male varsity wrestlers competed at the Mission Hills Varsity Boys Invitational Tournament on Jan. 4, and the team did not disappoint, taking home fourth place overall. Ryan Stadtherr took home gold. All the Falcons wrestled through some tough matches and pushed through the adversity.

Monte Vista Boys Varsity Tournament

Scripps Ranch High competed in the Monte Vista Boys Varsity Wrestling Tournament on Jan. 11. The team placed second out of 37 teams, and the coaches say this is a good indicator of how they will do at the CIF-San Diego tournament in a few weeks. Here are the impressive results: Ryan Stadtherr placed 1st at 215 lbs.; Elisha Hosseini placed 1st at 126 lbs.; Grant Hancock placed second at 144 lbs.; Hendrix Lynn placed 3rd at 190 lbs.; Dane Walkowiak-Vargas placed 4th at 190 lbs.; Micah Kollmeyer placed 6th at 132 lbs.; and David Henderson placed 6th at 175 lbs.

The Scripps Ranch High wrestling team came out on top in a dual competition against Patrick Henry High on Jan. 15. Here’s the breakdown of team scores:
SRHS boys varsity beat Patrick Henry (60-22)
SRHS girls varsity beat Patrick Henry (42-12)
SRHS boys JV beat Patrick Henry (38-12)

Scripps Ranch High School wrestling action at the Queen of the Realm Girls Wrestling Tournament in San Marcos on Jan. 18. (photo by Phuong Vu)

Queen of the Realm

The Lady Falcons took flight at the Queen of the Realm Girls Wrestling Tournament in San Marcos on Jan. 18, capturing ninth out of 33 teams. Four of seven Scripps Ranch High  wrestlers medaled: Chloe Ng took 3rd place; Hope Long took 4th place; Mariane Meriga finished in 5th; and Khyla Adams took 6th place. The wrestlers faced some great competition and overcame the kind of adversity with efforts they need to build toward finishing the season strong.

SRHS vs. Mira Mesa Wrestling Dual

The highly anticipated Battle of the 15 Wrestling Dual between Scripps Ranch High and Mira Mesa High on Jan. 22 did not disappoint as far as action was concerned. For the varsity it came down to the last heavyweight match with an exciting, but disappointing defeat. The whole gym shook with the roar of the crowd and even the referees were surprised at the end, thinking Scripps Ranch was very close to winning. But the end result was Mira Mesa High defeating Scripps Ranch High with the following scores:
JV: Scripps 21, Mira Mesa 54
Girls: Scripps 18, Mira Mesa 60
Varsity boys: Scripps 40, Mira Mesa 42
