SDUSD schools open Feb. 26
PARENT-STUDENT ALERT! SCHOOL IS BACK ON FOR FEB. 26. STRIKE AVERTED: The San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) and the San Diego Education Association (SDEA) reached a mutual agreement on how to proceed with a contract — and the one-day strike previously scheduled for Feb. 26 is off, according to a SDUSD statement. Classes will be held Feb. 26 as usual. The two sides came to agreements on several bargained subjects including special education and wages. SDEA will take the agreement to its membership for a ratification vote. All SDUSD schools will be open Feb. 26. The previously announced make-up date of March 9 will go back to being a non-instructional day with schools closed districtwide.
Library closure; parking updates
The start date for the planned 6 to 8 month closure of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library for replacement of the roof and HVAC system has been pushed back again and may possibly occur in late May or early June. A specific date has not been confirmed. Work on the lower parking lot, which has been suspended for more than the past 21 months, will reportedly resume concurrently.
Nominations open for Council District 6
The candidate nomination period for the June 2, 2026, Municipal Primary Election for the Office of Councilmember representing Districts 2, 4, 6 and 8 will close March 5 at 5 p.m. District 6, currently held by Councilmember Kent Lee, includes these parts of Scripps Ranch: Hibert Street, Businesspark Avenue, most of Aviary Drive, the very southern end of Scripps Ranch Boulevard. The boundary loops south of Scripps Ranch, then north to include areas east of Cypress Canyon Park Drive and the eastern portion of Scripps Ranch, including Stonebridge/Rancho Encantada.
Each candidate must be a registered voter and resident of the district for which they seek office for at least 30 calendar days immediately before the date the individual files nomination; and the individual must maintain residency in the district for which they are nominated during nomination and at the time of assuming office. Potential candidates must appear in person at the Office of the City Clerk to obtain nomination papers during the nomination period within business hours at the City Administration Building, 202 C St. All nomination forms must be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk by March 5, 2026, at 5 p.m. More information is available at sandiego.gov/2026elections.
Old Pros Scholarship Program is underway
The Scripps Ranch Old Pros Scholarship Program provides financial grants to college-bound high school seniors who live within the 92131 ZIP Code area. Scholarships are awarded to qualified applicants who have demonstrated strong character, participation in school or community activities, and a commitment to personal growth through athletics. Academic performance and athletic achievement are fundamental to the selection process, and the program also places emphasis on leadership, service, responsibility, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Scholarship applications are now available on the Scripps Ranch Old Pros website: srop.org and are open to eligible students graduating high school during the 2025-2026 academic year. Recipients are selected by the Scripps Ranch Old Pros Scholarship Committee in coordination with local high school counseling offices, with awards announced at high school and community scholarship ceremonies. Scholarship applications are due April 15, 2026.
