Rolling Heartbreakers are set to perform live
By Ashley Shah
The third band playing in the 2026 Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park summer concert series will be the Rolling Heartbreakers. This performance will take place on Aug. 9 in Hoyt Park.
The Rolling Heartbreakers will be performing in this series for the first time.
“We have done a lot of summer concert series in the past. I feel like the summer concerts are very lively, so we are excited to see the Scripps Ranch community,” lead vocalist Galen Cram said.
The genre of music that this band covers is rock and roll.
“As the name suggests, we cover Tom Petty’s band and the Rolling Stones. These two bands have some of the greatest catalogs available. Their music has been the soundtrack of our lives for the last 50 years. When you hear these songs, you have a lot of memories associated with them. These two bands are very musically compatible, guitar driven,” Cram said.
The band will be playing its usual genre at the concert.
“Frankly, our problem is that there are way too many big songs to fit into the concert. We only have about a little bit more than an hour,” Cram said. “We like to do mashup medleys to cover more ground. The mashups keep everyone dancing. I have not set a concrete list of songs yet, but I am being careful about it, so that we can keep everyone moving.”
Cram described his prim-ary goal for the concert.
“I want to bring the energy of these two bands together so that we can keep the energy of the audience up. I am excited to expose Rolling Stones fans to Tom Petty’s band, and vice versa,” he said.
There are six members in the band: Galen Cram (lead vocals and guitars), Rob Hanzlik (lead guitars and vocals), Jim Malkiewicz (bass and vocals), Randy McClintick (keyboards), Peter Arcidiacono (tenor sax and percussion) and Vince Lupo (drums and vocals).
The Rolling Heartbreakers is a San Diego based band that has been performing all over the county for about 12 years.
“Rob and I are musical brothers. We really took our time to pick the other members of the band. We are all very close and love performing together. We are passionate about getting these songs right. It’s all about the harmonies, attitude and instruments working together,” Cram said.
The August concert is sponsored by US Bank.
The concerts begin at 6 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. The audience is encouraged to bring low-back chairs and cloth blankets for seating. Members are allowed to bring their own food and beverages.
