Scripps Ranch High flag football continues its ascent

As Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) competes in its fourth official CIF-SDS flag football season, the 2026 team got off to an impressive start by winning seven of its first nine games. The team won a very significant victory against previously undefeated La Costa Canyon High, 25-7, on Sept. 10.
Last year, SRHS suffered a heartbreaking end to the 2025 CIF San Diego Section quarterfinals in an overtime loss to Granite Hills High.
SRHS opened up this season by defeating rival Mira Mesa High at home 19-12 on Aug. 18 before dominating Clairemont High 18-7 on Aug. 20. The Falcons continued their winning ways on Aug. 25 with a 13-6 victory over Mission Bay High, which was followed by a 25-20 shootout win against Academy of Our Lady of Peace on Aug. 27.
“There are a lot of girls who have played in multiple years with me because of the middle school program, so there is a good core there,” said SRHS head coach Charlie Tang. “They have been part of a winning culture ever since, so they understand what it takes.”
After suffering back-to-back losses to Oxnard High and Dos Pueblos to open the Ventura Showcase on Aug. 29, SRHS was able to close out the one-day tournament with a 34-14 blowout of Fillmore High.
“We are pretty solid in San Diego with high expectations and trying to be in one of the top two divisions,” Tang said. “Out of the seven teams in Western League, we expect to be in the top two for sure and I think we’re on our way to that.”
This year’s squad has 24 players comprised of six seniors, nine juniors and nine sophomores led by the talents of junior Malia Kollmeyer and defender Nikhya Ash along with teammates Mia Lauer and Marissa Antonio.
After a 25-12 victory on Sept. 1 over Cathedral Catholic High and a 32-0 drubbing of Patrick Henry High on Sept. 8, SRHS had eight games remaining starting on Sep. 24 versus Clairemont High which will be followed by another four games at home against Mission Bay High on Sept. 29, University City High on Oct. 3, Cathedral Catholic High on Oct. 6, and Santa Fe Christian on Oct. 8.
The Falcons then close out the season with three road matches in a row starting on Oct. 12 versus Patrick Henry High, Mission Hills High on Oct. 15 and the finale on Oct. 22 against San Marcos High.
SRHS ended 2025 with a 13-8 record overall thanks to an eight-game winning streak which stretched over a three-week period late in the season.
