The band Paging the 90s will perform on Sept. 14 for the first time in the Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park free summer concert series.

“We are very excited to play at Scripps Ranch. We have never played there before but have done a lot of the free summer concert series across San Diego. We have heard that Scripps Ranch is one of the best,” band general manager Matthew Previdi said.

The band has a lot to look forward to.

“Well, the reason that we love the summer concerts is because it gets us out of our comfort zone. We typically play a lot of club shows, but the summer concerts always introduce us to a new demographic and new people that end up joining our friends. It’s really fun to do what we do best in front of new faces in a new town,” Previdi said.

The band will be playing a diverse range of music from the 1990s.

“What makes Paging the 90s unique is that we play a complete blend of genres of music from the ’90s. We play everything from Backstreet Boys to Blink-182 to lots of hip-hop and even country,” he said. “We try to replicate the experience in the ’90s of flipping through stations on the radio to find our song. You would hear all sorts of genres and styles, and that’s the way we like to craft our set list.”

Previdi described what the band is hoping to see from the audience.

“The fun thing about being a cover band is that the goals are much simpler and clearer. We don’t have visions of touring around the country or becoming famous singers and musicians. We just want to put on a good show and have fun,” he said. “We know we have done a great job if people are dancing, moving in their seats and mouthing the words to what we’re doing – and if they’re smiling.”

There are six members in the band: Megan Mattix (vocals), Rob Berumen (guitar), Gabe Dagrezio (guitar/vocals), David Votel (bass), Erich Flessner (drums) and Matthew Previdi (vocals).

“I started the band about 13 years ago. We started out as a humble cover band that played small shows in East County, and since then we’ve grown to play for thousands of people. We just headlined the Rock ’N’ Roll Marathon, and we played at the San Diego Fair this year. It’s been a lot of fun, a lot of people and a ton of great music. We’re so lucky to keep it going,” Previdi said.

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. at Hoyt Park.

It is sponsored by The Glen Scripps Ranch. Free face-painting will be provided by Emma Lefkowitz and the Barron Real Estate team.

“I’m just excited really to see Scripps Ranch getting their groove on with Paging the 90s,” Previdi said.

This performance will conclude the 2025 Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park series for the summer months, but the organization’s final concert of the year will be the annual Holiday Concert which will be held in Hoyt Park. The date for this Scripps Ranch tradition had yet to be determined at press time.
