Falcons win again; advance in playoffs

The Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) football team defeated El Camino High 17-14 in dramatic fashion on Nov. 14 in a quarterfinal matchup of the 2025 CIF-San Diego Section Football Championship Division II playoffs.

SRHS scored first with a field goal, which was the result of an interception. However, the El Camino Wildcats would score two touchdowns to lead before the half, 10-14.

The SRHS defense held strong, preventing a fourth-and-1 Wildcat conversion, halting a scoring drive midway through the fourth quarter, forcing a turnover on downs and maintaining the score at 10-14.

The Falcons won the game in the fourth quarter by scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 20 seconds remaining in regulation time as Kasen Mendez broke through the El Camino High defense to lunge into the end zone for a touchdown to put SRHS ahead with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

SRHS will travel to face top-seeded Santa Fe Christian High in a semifinal contest on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
