Famous trainer expands IMPACT-X Performance
By Ashley Shah
Todd Durkin, a longtime resident of Scripps Ranch, is expanding his franchise gym IMPACT-X Performance to San Diego.
Durkin is known as an accomplished gym owner, strength and conditioning coach, author and motivational speaker.
He opened the first gym for IMPACT-X Performance in 2024.
“When the pandemic hit in 2020, I underwent a lot of changes in my health. I went through almost four years of challenging physical times. During that time, I went through a lot of soul searching,” Durkin said. “What I came up with during that time was that I was going to open another facility of mine that I could franchise and scale nationwide.”
There are currently six locations, which include New York, Indiana, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Hun-
tington Beach and now San Diego.
“My goal was to always have a location here in San Diego. This location will be the headquarters for IMPACT-X Performance,” Durkin said.
The facility is located in the Oggi’s shopping center in Carmel Mountain Ranch, 10175 Rancho Carmel Drive. The soft opening for the facility was planned for mid-March.
“The gym will be open to everyone with the soft opening, but we will have our official open house event in April,” Durkin said.
The four pillars that IMPACT-X Performance represents include fitness, recovery, faith, and life coaching.
“What really makes our gym different is the recovery aspect. There is a dedicated 1,300 square feet area for different modalities of recovery. There is cold plunging, saunas, compression therapy, cryotherapy, massage therapy, stretch therapy,” he said. “In addition, we have optimization; optimization is cutting edge. Members of the facility can have their bloodwork done. We will have a physician that works with our facility who will review the bloodwork. We will create a customized plan for supplements, which can include hormone and peptide therapy.”
The includes two main types of membership plans.
“The All Pro option includes unlimited large group training. There are about 25 classes per week that members can attend. However, the MVP option includes unlimited large group training, but also semi-private training. Semi-private training includes a customized, personalized training plan that is overseen by a coach. Both options include unlimited access to the recovery program,” Durkin said.
His philosophy behind this gym is to “be the light.”
“I believe that the wave of the future is fitness, wellness and holistic. This facility combines great world-class fitness programs with cutting edge recovery that are rooted in optimization and longevity,” he said.
Durkin’s impact in San Diego, specifically Scripps Ranch, has been present for the past two decades.
“My wife Melanie and I have been living in Scripps Ranch for about 25 years. All of our kids attended the local schools. I have coached for the Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) athletic teams. We love this community,” Durkin said.
In 2012, Durkin started the Impact Foundation to support those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
“I am from New Jersey. When Hurricane Sandy hit, I wanted to be able to support those that were affected even though I was far away, so we started the foundation. The entities that we support have expanded since then,” he said.
The Impact Foundation gives scholarships to around 10 student athletes every year, including some from SRHS. The foundation donates to mental health initiatives, specifically those that involve suicide prevention. It also donates to aid national disaster victims and families in need.
“Since 2012, the foundation has donated over a half of a million dollars across these three entities,” Durkin said.
Durkin is the founder of Fitness Quest 10 (FQ10) gym, a long-standing gym in Scripps Ranch.
“I started FQ10 in 2000 in Scripps Ranch. In 2020, I brought in Jeff Bristol as a partner because I was going through those health challenges,” Durkin said. “I still have so much love and passion for FQ10; it is truly an amazing community. However, I wanted to create something that would impact communities nationwide.”
Apart from his involvement in Scripps Ranch, Durkin has trained and helped coach professional athletes for many years.
“Drew Brees has been a big part of IMPACT-X Performance. He is on the board, and he will be working with me. In many ways, he is like an advisor to me,” he said.
Durkin has written six books centered around fitness, health, and wellness.
“‘True Strength’ is a memoir about the hardships I faced with my health and what led me to open IMPACT-X Performance. That memoir is a deep one,” he said.
He shared his final thoughts on the opening of IMPACT-X Performance.
“I am excited to serve the community again at a very high level. I cannot wait to have everyone feeling and being the best versions of themselves,” Durkin said.
