Friendly gatherings are the focus of club
By Denise Stewart
August was a fun-filled month for Welcome Club members who enjoyed a variety of activities together. Among the more special events were an evening garden party, an afternoon trip to Coronado for a ’70s music performance and dinner after, a morning coffee gathering while overlooking the lake, and a walkabout to appreciate the collection of murals now appearing on La Jolla buildings.
September was equally enjoyable for Welcome Club members. This month’s special events included a morning coffee at the Community Center, and later in the month a trip to visit our friends at “Downtown Abbey.” Of course, the journey took place in a theater chair, but a cup of tea was savored by the ladies as part of the movie experience in the elegant English manor.
While these highlight events took place, the regular monthly meetings of members to play cards, do crafts, discuss books, roll dice and take trail walks all took place. These gatherings gave members opportunities to share time with friends while sharpening their skills and sharing their thoughts and talents.
September’s monthly club meeting on the second Monday evening at the Community Center featured a talk by Tyler Trimble, a local fruit tree expert. His expertise in conquering the challenges of maximizing fruit production in our climate zone gave his audience the knowledge and opportunity to have their gardens flourish.
October’s meeting will be a Halloween theme. Sandy Small will demonstrate how to create cacti gardens in pumpkins.
While Welcome Club is a Scripps Ranch tradition, it remains eager to have new members join the fun and to bring innovative ideas to the group. Check the website for more information about how to join to enhance your leisure time: scrippsranchwelcomeclub.com.
