Friends and activity lead to longer, healthier life

Scientific research is telling us that to enjoy a longer and healthier life we need to keep moving and enjoying our free time.

The Scripps Ranch Welcome Club invites local women to join in its mission of connection, celebration and personal growth. Whether you are seeking new friendships, creative collaboration, game nights, learning experiences, theater events and social occasions, or simply a cozy group to share your thoughts about a book, you will find a home here.

Welcome Club has been part of Scripps Ranch’s local culture since the 1980s. Current members have raised their families, pursued successful careers, and are now enjoying their free time and the rewards for their efforts.

July’s list of special events made the month particularly enjoyable for members. A Morning Coffee in Lynnell Hallock’s garden drew a friendly group to delight in the delectable brunch dishes that covered the buffet table. Coffee and a relaxed occasion for catching up with neighbors is a monthly tradition of the Welcome Club.

The club’s summer tradition of the members gathering for dinner took on a new format this year. Instead of the historic outdoor salad supper created by the participants, diners met at Filippi’s Restaurant patio area and celebrated with a catered Italian menu.

A travel adventure also took place this month. A scenic train ride along the coast transported the group to San Juan Capistrano and a tour of Los Rios Historic District. There, the ladies visited the mission and surrounding shops after enjoying lunch.

The current warm and bright summer evenings are perfect for the outdoor potluck called a TGI by club members. One Saturday evening they gathered around the pool at Mary Ann and Hilliard Harper’s home. The TGI weekend events include guests of members to provide for the opportunity to make new friends.

While these occasions highlighted the month, the regularly occurring gatherings like card and Bunco games, craft making, book discussions and the monthly meeting on the second Monday all make it easy to have something to look forward to and to support those social connections that make for an enjoyable life.

Welcome Club has a website: scrippsranchwelcomeclub.com where you can find contact information and learn more about its local social scene.
