GARDEN CLUB
Garden tours are a highlight
By Denise Stewart
While presentations by master gardeners fill the indoor meetings with opportunities to learn more about plants, soil and proven gardening techniques, Scripps-Mesa Garden Club’s summer meetings move outdoors to the members’ places of pleasure.
May’s meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month was set to take place in the club president’s backyard. Karen Lopez was scheduled to share her experience of gardening in local soil. Her success with tropical, desert and local fauna captured the attention of those who share her challenges and successes. She also shared the current concerns over plant placement that she is experiencing along with other local residents who need to meet fire insurer’s demands.
June and July’s Garden Club meetings will also feature a tour of a member’s garden.
Membership in the Scripps-Mesa Garden Club is always open to local residents. Dues are $30 a year. More information about the club and local gardening subjects are available on its website: scrippsmesagardenclub.com.
