Library offers gift selections and a variety of upcoming events

Grace’s Book Nook

Grace’s Book Nook, the used bookstore in the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library, run and staffed completely by volunteers, is open for shopping Tuesdays through Saturdays during library hours. In addition to a variety of books for all ages – from babies and tots to teens and in between, and of course adults – the Book Nook also stocks CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, greeting cards (including a nice selection of Christmas cards), magazines, calendars and more! You’ll find many books in giftable condition, making the Book Nook the perfect place to find stocking stuffers. The Book Nook also stocks antiquarian and vintage books, including collectors’ editions, which can make unique gifts for the book lover on your list.

Big sale

Don’t miss the Second Saturday sale in January, which looks to be the biggest yet.  Scheduled for Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the sale will spread across three rooms and will feature the always popular “Big Yellow Bag” special! Shoppers can choose to fill a huge yellow bag for only $10 or, if they prefer, buy by the book.

Your tax-deductible donations of gently used books and media are always welcome!  Fiction, CDs and DVDs are currently in particular demand, but books for all ages and most genres would be very much appreciated. All donations help support the library you love!

Are you a real friend of the library?

Many library users think that their library card automatically makes them a Friend of the Library. They may consider themselves a “friend” in that they like – even love – the library and take good advantages of the many resources it offers, checking out stacks of books and media and periodicals, reading in the comfy chairs, studying at the tables, enjoying and learning from the many free programs, using the meeting rooms for community and sometimes personal events, beating the summer heat in the cool zone, and more. However, the funds provided through tax monies fall far short each year of what is needed to make our Scripps Miramar Ranch Library function at the level our community wants and deserves.

This is where the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library (SRFOL) plays a major role. In fact, approximately half of all new books and media are made possible with funds provided by SRFOL – each and every year. So, roughly half of all books on the library shelves were purchased utilizing funding from SRFOL. SRFOL also provides funding to provide a robust schedule of programs.

Annual memberships are on a calendar year basis, and if you join now, your membership will be good through the end of December 2026.

For more information about membership and its benefits or to join SRFOL, visit srfol.org/join.
