Library’s many summer programs underway
By Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library
Summer Reading Program is back: The ever popular Summer Reading Program is in full swing. This year’s theme is “Level Up at Your Library.” Readers and gamers of all ages – children, teens and adults – are invited to participate in “Level Up at Your Library” and rediscover the joy of gaming in all its forms, from board games and video games to outdoor activities and “gamified” reading adventures.
To participate, register at sandiego.beanstack.org/reader365 and start reading, gaming and earning points that can be redeemed for prizes, including museum passes and free books!
In addition to encouraging everyone to read, the Summer Reading Program features many free entertaining, educational and engaging special programs at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library for kids and teens, sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library. Plus, there are various community events, including video game tournaments, board game nights, and more, taking place at all 37 San Diego Public Library locations. To register online, view a list of activities and books, or to find a Summer Reading Program event, visit sandiego.gov/summerreading.
Where’s Odi: Throughout July, Odi* the Coyote, San Diego Public Library’s mascot, is hiding somewhere inside all 37 library locations. How many can you find? The Library Shop SD’s most popular program is back with all new button designs and prizes, including custom Odi lanyards! Pick up your passport at our library and start sleuthing! Begin at our own Scripps Miramar Ranch Library, find where Odi is hiding, tell a staff member and receive a special custom Scripps Miramar Ranch Library “Odi” button, featuring Odi plus an Evans Pond resident frog and duck with a bag of the special duck food for sale in Grace’s Book Nook. Then, before heading off to another library for your next Odi sighting, consider first going to the Book Nook to buy a bag of duck food (it floats and is specially formulated for waterfowl) and make some ducks happy at Evans Pond!
*In case you were wondering, Odi the Coyote got his name from San Diego Public Library’s Vision as “the place for Opportunity, Discovery and Inspiration.”
Grace’s Book Nook is open during library hours: Grace’s Book Nook, the used bookstore in the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library, has reopened! Shopping at the Book Nook – with its large selection of well-organized books for all ages, including plentiful adult fiction and children’s books – may be the perfect solution for those frustrated by the current restricted access to our library’s collection of fiction and children’s books. With most books priced from only 25 cents to $1 or $1.50, the Book Nook is a book lover’s and bargain seeker’s paradise! Expect to use a detour route through the library to reach the Book Nook due to the ongoing construction.
The next second Saturday pop-up book sale is planned for July 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature an expanded shopping area and selection of books. Your tax deductible donations of gently used books are always welcome. Check srfol.org for updates or email booknook@srfol.org for any questions.
