Scripps Ranch offers a lot of amenities, but it does not have a golf course. However, a local resident is planning to change that – in a way. At least he hopes to provide the next best thing.

Roman Sherbak is planning to open PureShot Indoor Golf in Scripps Ranch possibly in mid-October. PureShot will offer three large, curved indoor golf simulator screens in which customers can practice their golf form, play an entire simulated game of golf or simply enjoy taking swings and learning the game.

Sherbak, a Scripps Ranch resident, explained that golfing at PureShot will be a totally immersive experience – both physically and visually – with state of the art graphics and feedback from the simulator, all in an air conditioned environment. Additionally, golfers can play nearly any of the legendary golf courses in the world using the simulators.

“The graphics these days are incredibly good. So, we’ll have very powerful computers with the latest graphics cards. … It will be pretty realistic in terms of what you’ll see,” Sherbak said.

Players will hit a real golf ball against a screen, using real golf clubs. The simulator immediately calculates the ball’s trajectory, speed and distance, providing a simulation on the screen. The real ball will hit the screen and roll back to the player for the next shot.

“You’ll see the layout of the course for that hole you are playing. You’ll select the club – whichever one you want – out of the bag and line up and take the swing. … The launch monitor picks up the hit and takes a lot of photographs within milliseconds … of how the ball spins – and extrapolates it into what kind of shot it’s going to be. It’s incredibly accurate,” Sherbak said. “If you were going to do this in real life, it would be exact. … The computer takes that information and launches the (simulated) ball just like in real life, and wherever the ball lands, it shows whatever distance remains. Then you pick your (next) club, drop the ball on the mat and then take your next shot.”

PureShot will be available for fun play, for friends who want to get together to play a round or two, and for families as well. There will be some golf clubs available for those who have not played golf before. There will also be an area where golfers can practice their putting. Customers can take their time hitting the ball, but they don’t have to walk the course or use a golf cart. It will be safe, and no one will get a sunburn.

Novices can try it to see if they like the sport. Sherbak envisions offering golf leagues, special date nights, or possibly some golf clinics or introductory sessions featuring golf coaches.

“For serious golfers, it will allow them to review their data to watch their shots … and give them feedback. … ball speeds, angles – so they can analyze it, work on their game and make corrections,” he said.

That information could also be used for skills coaching that any player might want.

“They can play a full round in one hour. They can play Pebble Beach or Torrey Pines – pretty much any golf course they can imagine will be available for their use,” Sherbak said.

“Also, it will be fun for kids, for parents who want to spend some time with their kids,” he said. “So, folks could take their kids to our facility and play a little golf and spend some quality golf time with them.”

Each of Pureshot’s three golf bays can accommodate four players, so a total of 12 golfers can play each hour. The business will offer golf sessions on an hourly rental basis, as well as a membership plan. Prices will be finalized soon and published on PureShot’s website.

PureShot Indoor Golf will be located at 10035 Carroll Canyon Road, Suite G.
