Pop Warner team advances in playoffs
The Scripps Ranch Pop Warner and Cheer Association 12u football team defeated the Murrieta Valley Battlehawks 21-0 in a hard-fought playoff game on Nov. 6 in Scripps Ranch.
While there were a number of turnovers and penalties on both sides throughout this game, it proved to be an exciting and very physical contest. Scripps Ranch kept Murrieta Valley from scoring, once closing the door on the Battlehawks when they were just a few yards from the goal line. The Falcons defense seemed to become tougher as the game progressed, and some individual players came up with a handful of sensational defensive plays for stops in the opponent’s backfield.
Meanwhile, the Scripps Ranch running game was relentless, grinding away for several critical first downs. In addition, Falcons ball carriers kept their feet churning to break loose for occasional big gainers, some going for touchdowns.
The Scripps Ranch Pop Warner 12u team now advances to the semi-finals. The Falcons are scheduled to play the 12u Rancho Hills Titans next Saturday, Nov. 13, with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff at Scripps Ranch High School.
Other teams from the Scripps Ranch Pop Warner and Cheer Association were in playoff action Nov. 6. The Scripps Ranch 10u team lost to the Santee Ravens 20-8; and the 14u team lost to the 14u Murrieta Valley Ballhawks 37-0.
