With nine matches in the books and nine still left to play, the Scripps Ranch High School womens varsity lacrosse team looks to close out strong in hopes of making a post-season run.

The Lady Falcons started off the regular season with a dramatic 15-14 victory on the road against Francis Parker High, which was followed by a convincing 14-5 win versus Canyon Crest Academy.

“We’re really excited about girls stepping up and filling new rolls with new leadership,” said Scripps Ranch High head coach Michele Uhlfelder. “It’s about bringing the team along as much as we can.”

The Lady Falcons played in front of the home fans for the first time on March 4, coming out with another impressive performance, 14-2 over Poway High. This got the team to a 3-0 record, which was the best start since 2022 when it went undefeated in the first 12 matches.

After the victory over Poway High, Scripps Ranch High suffered its first defeat three days later at La Costa Canyon High School, 17-3, before traveling to take on Mt. Carmel High on March 11.

“It’s a different year when you graduate players who are experienced,” Uhlfelder said. “We have a lot of really tough league opponents that will help prepare us for the other tough games that we have as well.”

The Lady Falcons have three seniors on the current squad in Maya Estremera, Ava Yee and Nina Buenaventura, who have provided valuable stability particularly in high pressure situations. Among the other players who have been standouts so far and hope to have an impact the rest of the way are midfielder McKenna Durkin along with teammate Mika Bachand.

Scripps Ranch High will play three more times at home against University City on April 9, Cathedral Catholic High on April 15 and La Jolla High School on April 24. The Lady Falcons kick off their six remaining road matches with back to back meetings versus Cathedral Catholic High on March 27 and 28, followed by trips to Del Norte High School on April 4 and La Jolla High on April 8. Scripps Ranch High will also travel to Coronado on April 17 and closes out the regular season against University City High on April 29.
