SRHS wrestlers wrap up season

Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) senior Ryan Stadtherr represented the Falcons wrestling team at the CIF State Championships.

He had an impressive performance at the CIF-SDS Masters and, although the competition at the State Championships was incredibly tough, his achievement in securing a spot at the State level is a shining example of his hard work and perseverance. Stadtherr is a three-year wrestler at SRHS. This was his first time qualifying to compete at the State Championships for the Falcons. He earned an alternate spot last year.

“It was cool to represent Scripps Ranch at the State tournament this year,” he said. “There were so many great wrestlers at the tournament and I’m honored to be recognized as one of them. After coming only a match short two years in a row, it really makes the accomplishment mean so much more and is a testament to the strength of the tournament. With so many other wrestlers deserving of going to State, Scripps wrestling has a bright future ahead.”

“This season has been remarkable for our program thanks to the incredible growth of our individual wrestlers. As a result, we have achieved numerous team accomplishments,” said Justin Viramontes, SRHS wrestling coach. “The outstanding results throughout the season not only highlight the team’s exceptional dedication to continuous improvement but also cement this year as one of the most successful in recent history. I am incredibly proud of how the team has developed and thrived.”

CIF-SDS Championships

The Scripps Ranch High School mens wrestling team delivered an outstanding performance at the CIF-SDS Division 2 Wrestling Championships on Feb. 15. Out of the 12 wrestlers who represented the team, 10 placed in their respective weight classes, and seven advanced to the Masters Championships. The team finished fourth place overall.

Senior Jack Hamilton led the charge, dominating the 150 pound weight bracket with four wins to secure first place. Seniors Kai Duckworth (120 pounds) and Ryan Stadtherr also impressed, earning second place. Juniors Elisha Hosseini (126 pounds) and David Henderson each took fourth place. Junior Matthew Tung (138 pounds) and senior Isaiah Castillo each secured fifth place, while Junior Micah Kollmeyer (132 pounds) and seniors Grant Hancock (144 pounds) and Dafu Wang (heavyweight) rounded out the team’s wins with eighth place finishes.

Hamilton is a four-time Masters qualifier, earning top spots at CIF divisional championships consecutively throughout his high school years – a remarkable achievement in the program’s history. Hamilton has also medaled two times at the Masters Championships. This is senior Ryan Stadtherr’s second time qualifying for Masters.

“Securing first place in the 150 pound weight class is a highlight of my high school career. Facing tough competition over the past four years has made me stronger and more determined,” Hamilton said. “Wrestling has been an integral part of my journey, and I’ve enjoyed every moment. I’m grateful for the support of my mentors, teammates and coaches throughout this journey.”

Joining the mens team of Masters qualifiers are four qualifiers from the womens team, composed of seniors Hope Long (100 pounds) and Chloe Ng (110 pounds), freshman Malia Kollmeyer (105 pounds) and Khyla Adams (125 pounds). Long, Ng, Kollmeyer and Adams secured their spots to compete at Masters after their podium finishes at the recent womens CIF-SDS divisional championships.

SRHS wrestling thrived at CIF-SDS Masters

SRHS wrestlers demonstrated exceptional skill at the CIF-SDS Masters tournament held on Feb. 21-22. Senior Ryan Stadtherr earned second place and a spot to compete at the CIF State Championships, while seniors Jack Hamilton and Hope Long earned alternate positions.

The SRHS wrestling team was represented by a healthy lineup of their division’s top placers, including freshman Malia Kollmeyer (105 pounds), Juniors Khyla Adams (120 pounds), Elisha Hosseini (126 pounds), Matthew Tung (136 pounds) and David Henderson, as well as Seniors Kai Duckworth (120 pounds), Jack Hamilton (150 pounds), Isaiah Castillo (173 pounds) and Ryan Stadtherr (215 pounds). This was Hamilton’s fourth consecutive year qualifying for CIF-SDS Masters. He earned his second medal at the recent CIF-SDS Masters Championship.

The team wrestled well, securing wins against some of the county’s top wrestlers throughout the two-day event. The top four finishers for men’s and the top three placers for women’s qualified to compete at the CIF State Championships in Bakersfield on Feb. 27-March 1.

“Competing at the CIF Masters tournament was an incredible experience, and earning an alternate position is an honor. Wrestling is a tough sport and has played a significant role in my high school journey,” said senior Hope Long. “I’m proud of what our team has accomplished this season and to have seen women’s wrestling grow at Scripps Ranch High School. It’s exciting to be part of this progress.”
