Women with varied interests lead an energetic club

Just glancing at the calendar of the Scripps Ranch Welcome Club’s March activities makes one aware that sharing a variety of enjoyable times is what the club is all about.

Those who relish exercising outdoors have a monthly hike to take part in. This month a hike led by Nancy Hurwitz was around the Jack Creek Meadow Loop on the Daley Ranch. It was delayed from last month when windy conditions made the hike impossible. The trail stretched hikers’ legs and filled their lungs with fresh air. The beautiful scenery lifted their spirits.

The theater lovers in the club gathered at Alan Binks’ home to share a potluck before they journeyed just down the road to the Alliant University campus. There, they got to enjoy a newly written play, titled “White” at the Scripps Ranch Theatre. It was delightful spending a Saturday evening with friends, sharing tasty food and enjoying the performance – all without leaving our community.

In April, a more traditional production at the local theater titled “Mary’s Wedding” will take Welcome Club members and their guests back to a romantic setting in 1914. The pre-theater potluck will add flavor to the evening once again.

This month art lovers journeyed to El Cajon’s Wieghorst Western Art Museum to savor the paintings of this internationally known artist. While touring his home and viewing Weighorst’s sweeping landscapes, horses, cowboys and life on the plains themes, the club members had a delightful morning. Like most Gadabout adventures, the ladies took part in a gastronomical event after the cultural experience.

Welcome Club’s monthly meeting at the Community Center featured handwriting analyst Paula Sassi. She shared her stories of her technique of revealing personality traits of the rich and famous, and the infamous. Paula entertained and enlightened the group about the story told by one’s personal script.

Looking forward to warmer weather and longer evenings, the club will soon be celebrating some weekends with what they call TGIs. Outdoor potlucks at member’s homes are a club tradition that celebrate friendships and the pleasant weather.

Along with these more unique events, the regular gatherings for crafting, Bunco games and book discussions make for a varied list of day and evening opportunities to join others for enjoyable times close to home.

Welcome Club has a new website. It is an easy way to learn more about the club and ways to make contact with the membership Chair Debby Mayer: scrippsranchwelcomeclub.com
