Women’s Club members share warm holiday spirit

’Tis the season for holiday glow, celebration and giving to others! In December, the Women’s Club enjoyed a wonderful array of seasonal gatherings and festive events. Our Annual Holiday Party on Dec. 7 at Yanni’s Bar & Grill was a highlight – an evening filled with warm conversations, laughter, delicious food and the simple pleasure of being together.

Amid the festivities, members once again embraced our long-held tradition of supporting others by donating gifts and gift cards to the women and children at Hidden Valley House. These donations reflect our club’s values and the belief that the true magic of the season lies in sharing kindness and hope with others. A heartfelt thank-you goes to our Social Committee for creating such a delightful celebration, and to every member whose generosity helped brighten the holidays for the residents at Hidden Valley House.

Women’s Club members enjoyed several other festive events throughout December. Among them was a beautiful performance of “Handel’s Messiah” by the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale at Grossmont Center. Many also plan to attend “Mistletoe Melodies” at Scripps Ranch Theatre, a charming holiday cabaret featuring Erica Marie Weisz performing classic seasonal songs with warmth and style.

The fun and festive holiday spirit extended to all of our interest groups. From Bridge and Bunco to Mahjong, Canasta, Book Groups and Pickleball, members gathered throughout the month with seasonal flair. Many groups added small celebrations to their regular meetings: luncheons, gift exchanges and other touches that made each gathering feel special. One Book Group celebrated with its Annual Holiday Luncheon and Book Exchange, while several Bunco groups extended the spirit of giving by making donations to various charitable organizations, including the San Diego Food Bank. Together, these activities created a warm holiday atmosphere across the club.

With the spirit of giving all around us, we are pleased to share that the Scripps Ranch Women’s Club was the recipient of a generous contribution honoring the memory of longtime community member Betty Harmon. Throughout her life, Betty exemplified service, generosity and community spirit – coaching youth teams, volunteering in schools and fostering decades of neighborhood traditions and celebrations. Her warmth, dedication and commitment to others left a lasting impact on all who knew her. This contribution pays tribute to a woman whose values align closely with those of our club, and we are grateful to help carry forward her legacy of kindness, friendship and community.

The start of a new year always brings fresh opportunities to gather, reconnect and strengthen our commitment to community giving. To celebrate, we’ll come together for our traditional La Jolla Shores Beach Walk and a luncheon at Piatti’s.

Our Arts and Culture group is also looking forward to experiencing the work of Eduardo Chillida, the renowned Basque sculptor, at the San Diego Museum of Art.  And for our theater enthusiasts, the comedic one-woman play “Donna Orbits the Moon” at the Scripps Ranch Theatre promises to be a highlight. There will be a lovely pre-theatre party at Ann and Tom Massey’s home, along with a post-show reception to meet the cast and director after this opening night performance.

Next month, we look forward to sharing an overview of our Community Giving and Scholarship opportunities, including eligibility guidelines, application steps and key dates.
