Garden tours celebrate the season

Scripps-Mesa Garden Club members are enjoying the product of their efforts with tours among the blooms of local gardens.
Dawn Standke, a Master Gardener who did a presentation for the club on Gardening Myths a few months ago, invited the club in late April to tour her tropical fruit tree collection. The variety of trees that grow in her multi-level backyard in Rancho Penasquitos provides an abundance of exotic and tasty organic treats. She shared her gardening techniques and shared several of the ripened fruits with her guests.
Coming up on the meeting night of the fourth Tuesday of this month, Char Fitzgerald, a longtime club member, will host the tour of her garden. She has lived in Scripps Ranch for several years and her garden reflects the changing popularity of plants favored over time.
In June, a new club member will host his fellow plant lovers in his newer garden on the north end of the community. His enthusiasm for his hobby predicts it will be an informative experience among beautiful greenery.
Later in the summer, the gardeners will gather for an outdoor dinner to toast the enjoyment of their hobby and to share what they have learned this growing season. In the fall, meetings will resume indoors at a location yet to be determined.
