MCASD Downtown plans eXit pARTy
Prepare for anything but the norm at the second event in Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego Downtown’s (MCASD) new eXit pARTy series. The next event is scheduled for Thursday, June 29 from 7 to 10 p.m.
With hands-on activities, a performance by artist Angela Jennings, specialty cocktails curated by Snake Oil Cocktail Company, and live music curated by A Ship in the Woods, MCASD’s eXit pARTy offers new ways to engage with contemporary art.
Inspired by Andrea Chung’s exhibition “You broke the ocean in half to be here,” eXit pARTy — Changing Tides will evoke the vibrant, diverse space of the sea. For her first solo museum exhibition, the San Diego-based artist presents an immersive installation composed of cyanotype prints of lionfish, a non-native species that has proliferated recently in the Caribbean, destroying the local ecosystem. With their cyan-blue color, the prints conjure a fantastic underwater world, while offering a potent allegory for colonialism, as the invasive lionfish reshape their environment according to their own needs.
Spotlight tours of Chung’s exhibition, as well as two other recently opened exhibitions in the downtown galleries, Prospect 2017 and Go Tell It: Selections from MCASD’s Collection, will be offered throughout the evening.
eXit pARTy goers will enjoy multiple live musical acts including Zayra, Island Boy, Yaya Skinbyrd, and DJ Ana Brown of Radio Pulso del Barrio.
