Latifahtron will bring its progressive funk sounds to the Scripps Ranch Market Place on Sunday, Aug. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. (Facebook)

Latifahtron at Scripps Ranch Marketplace
The band Latifahtron will provide the cool sounds of progressive funk on a hot Scripps Ranch evening at the Scripps Ranch Marketplace on Sunday, Aug. 13 starting at 5 p.m. With a smooth vibe usually found in a cool, dark lounge, the members of Latifahtron have no problem performing for a crowd at a suburban shopping center on a summer night in the shade of a gazebo.

Fronted by lead singer Latifah Smith, this group not only features Smith’s smoky-smooth vocals, but a polished array of instrumental performers working together.

Listen carefully because Smith unleashes some enchanting lyrics. It’s fascinating to catch the phrases when hearing such a band live and in person. Their lyrics are exquisitely deep and haunting.

It’s always awesome to witness a band whose members are into their sound and love their music. Enjoy a small sample on their Facebook page: facebook.com/latifahtron/.

Besides lead vocals, Latifahtron consists of guitar, bass, drums and keyboard. The band has been together for about a year and a half, according to bass player Alexander Bravo.

“We’re just like your regular funk band with a little more exciting, progressive elements,” he said. “It’s all mostly original music.”

This is the second in a series of free live entertainment events open to the public each Sunday evening in August at the shopping center located at Scripps Poway Parkway and Spring Canyon Road.

The performances will be held at Scripps Ranch Marketplace in the gazebo area between Starbucks and Luna Grill from 5 to 7 p.m. Visit scrippsranchmarketplace.com.
