SCRIPPS RANCH WEEKEND

Savagewood Brewing Company is releasing a cross country collaboration on June 2: a classic “Old World” saison.

SCRIPPS RANCH WEEKEND

Savage City beer release
Key City Brewing Company head brewer Zack Erickson was mentored by Savagewood Brewing Company head brewer Zachary Hayes before moving to Mississippi to run his own brewery. He came back out to San Diego for a visit, so naturally Zack and Zach (or Z-squared) wanted to get together for a cross country collaboration. What they created was a classic “Old World” saison.

What is Old World? It’s dry, earthy, balanced and herbaceous; slightly spicy and phenolic in a throwback to the classic intention of the style. This saison comes in at 7.9 percent ABV. This is a great hot weather beer, and it’s pouring on Saturday, June 2.

On Sunday morning, June 3, Savagewood Brewing Company will hold another Hoppy Yoga session starting at 10:30 a.m., led by Cymbre Brown. Yoga will be followed immediately by a beer social. There will be a complimentary snack for everyone, plus the usual beermosas, craft soda and cold brew coffee. Pre-register online at www.hoppyyoga.com or just drop in to the brewery.

Savagewood Brewing Company is at 9879 Hibert St., Suite F.

Scripps Ranch Softball Association fundraiser
Supporters of Scripps Ranch Softball Association can enjoy a great meal and a drink anytime this weekend at Bruski Burgers & Brew Scripps Ranch. Just mention Scripps Ranch Softball while placing your order and 10 percent of the proceeds will go to the league. Bruski Burgers & Brew is at 9844 Hibert St., G-10.

Or, place an order at Board & Brew on Saturday, June 2. Just mention Scripps Ranch Softball and 20 percent will go back to the league. Board & Brew is at 9880 Hibert St.

SRHS Prom
High school seniors across Scripps Ranch will be stepping out of their homes in formal dresses and tuxedos as they embark on one of the most memorable evenings of their teenage years. Themed “Garden of Lights,” the Scripps Ranch High School (SRHS) senior prom will take place on June 2 at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park.

The event will include game tables, photo booths, a multi-camera photo array and students will have access to the exhibits. While there will be a traditional DJ playing dance music on loud speakers on the main level dance floor, a silent DJ will be featured on the rooftop, where students will be offered headsets that they can switch to a variety of stations to suit their musical tastes. In this environment, those wishing to listen to music can do so, while those who prefer to socialize with their friends can enjoy a quieter atmosphere in the same space.

Prom at SRHS is well-attended each year, with expected attendance of greater than 500 students.

SRLL Closing Day
Scripps Ranch Little League (SRLL) is celebrating the end of the season at Closing Day on June 2 for awards and a movie night. Highlights include the Coaches’ Home Run Derby, the awards ceremony, dinner and a showing of the movie “The Sandlot” on the grass at Jerabek Park. Festivities began at 5 p.m. The event celebrates sportsmanship awards, the post-season teams and division champions.

DJ at Sanctuary
DJ Mark Faustino will spin the jams on Saturday, June 2 from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. at Sanctuary Lounge, 12090 Scripps Summit Drive, off Scripps Poway Parkway. Visit sanctuaryloungesd.com.

‘For Better’ explores digital romance
Scripps Ranch Theatre will deliver its production of “For Better” to audiences through June 24 at the Legler Benbough Theater on the Alliant International University campus.

Written by Eric Coble and directed by Eric Poppick, “For Better” explores and pokes fun at the world of romance in the digital age. With all the electronic options available for communication these days, who’s to say a couple can’t play out their romantic relationship entirely by wireless means? Who’s to say it’s not as good as in-person interaction?

Performances will be held every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and every Sunday at 2 p.m. through June 24 in the Legler Benbough Theater at Alliant International University, 9783 Avenue of Nations. For tickets, visit scrippsranchtheatre.org.
