Pool Party & Bocce Ball
The Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club has a busy Sunday on Aug. 20 with events planned at both its locations. 

The Ultimate Summer Pool Party is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. at the Aviary location, 9875 Aviary Drive. The party will include a 32-foot inflatable slip ’n’ slide, DJ Tim on the pool deck, five grills all fired up for barbecuing, beach balls, squirt toys and pool noodles. There will be a picture station with props, and sweet treats will be available for purchase while supplies last. Meals will not be included so attendees should bring their own picnic food. This event is for club members and their guests only.

Later the same day, the Scripps Ranch Swim & Racquet Club presents Son of Bocci, the club’s Bocci Ball Tournament #2, starting at 5 p.m. at the back playground of the Trails club, 10216 Scripps Trail. Cost for club members is $5 and $10 for nonmembers. The tournament format will be two-person blind draw teams and the event is limited to 20 players. Sign up at the Aviary club front desk. DJ Roms and DJ Bull will keep the sounds flowing Friday night at Sanctuary Lounge.

On Friday night, Aug. 18, Sanctuary Lounge will feature Keni Yarbro and his acoustic guitar beginning at 7 p.m. DJ Roms and DJ Bull will follow Yarbro’s performance to keep the sounds flowing until 2 a.m. 

Sanctuary Lounge is located at 12090 Scripps Summit Drive, off Scripps Poway Parkway. Hours are 4-10 p.m. Mondays; 3-11 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 2 p.m.-midnight Thursdays; 2 p.m.-2 a.m. Fridays; and 4 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturdays. Visit sanctuaryloungesd.com.

Enjoy Brushes and Beer
For some, everything seems to go better with beer. Why not try your hand at painting while sipping a cool brew at Ballast Point Scripps Ranch this Sunday? A Brushes and Beer painting class will be held on Aug. 20 starting at 3 p.m. 

The $45 fee will include your canvas, materials, instruction and a taster flight of beer. Admit it, you’ve probably done crazier things and had less fun while spending more money. And you probably had nothing to show for it. This time you’ll get a canvas of your own creation to take home; proof that you were engaged in a constructive activity.

Lion Bold artists will roar

Scripps Ranch Marketplace will hold a talent showcase on Sunday, Aug. 20, featuring an assortment of artists from Lion Bold, a media production company, record label and music production studio. This is a prime opportunity for shoppers and residents of Scripps Ranch to add some flavor to their deep summer Sunday routine by discovering some new San Diego talent, live and in person.

This is the third in a series of free live entertainment events open to the public each Sunday evening in August at the shopping center located at Scripps Poway Parkway and Spring Canyon Road. 

The performances will be held at Scripps Ranch Marketplace in the gazebo area between Starbucks and Luna Grill from 5 to 7 p.m. Visit scrippsranchmarketplace.com.

Food trucks at Newtopia
Hungry customers enjoying a drink at Newtopia Cyder this weekend need not worry. Select food trucks will be on hand to serve up tasty grub. Here is the schedule:

Friday, Aug. 18, 3 p.m., The Carver, Coal and Barrel (barbecue)
Saturday, Aug. 19, 3 p.m., Franklin’s Cuts (cheesesteaks, hoagies, cutlets)
Sunday, Aug. 20, 4 p.m., Papas Locas (Mexican cuisine)

Farmer’s Market is a family festival
The Scripps Ranch Farmers Market is a weekly family festival with a wide selection of vendors each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 10380 Spring Canyon Road, in the Innovations Academy parking lot. 

The Scripps Ranch Farmers Market has a nice selection of food, services, produce and merchandise. It’s a casual experience where you can mingle, browse, eat, enjoy a cool drink and listen to live music. 

Kids get to search for the vendor booth that has a stuffed penguin. When the children spot the penguin, they can tell the vendor, who then issues the child a red ticket. The child can turn in the ticket at the information booth, where they are allowed to search through a treasure chest to select a free toy. Visit srfm.org.  

Events at Unleashed
The Unleashed pet supply store in Scripps Ranch will host a pet adoption event featuring dogs from Labradors + Friends Dog Rescue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. 

Also on Saturday, Unleashed will offer Free Puppy Playtime for pet owners and their young dogs from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Scripps Ranch store. This is a one-hour socialization time for puppies to play with one another. Dogs should be between eight weeks to six months of age. Pet owners must bring their pup’s vaccination records.
