The Mighty Untouchables will descend on Hoyt Park to perform a free concert this evening, Sept. 10, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., and the band will be coming in force.

“It’s been a warm summer and we’ve had a lot of shows like this. We just kind of put ourselves in that mindset and the crowd’s energy is entirely what we feed off of,” Tucker said. “Once we get going, we forget about the heat and we just go with it. Working up a good sweat can make you feel energized.”
The band has a wide variety of musical talent and play an array of music as well. A sample of the playlist includes selections from Bruno Mars, Cee Lo Green, Earth, Wind & Fire, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Prince, Santana, AC/DC, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations and Celia Cruz.
The Mighty Untouchables band has been together nearly nine years, and it has performed in the Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park Series about three times so far, Tucker said.
The core members have known each other for more than 25 years, she explained. It originated from two of the members being together in the Navy Band. Those two then migrated to a church band at The Church at Rancho Bernardo. The group began to take shape as the church band, and performed together for many years. About nine years ago, some of the members decided to go into business together as a professional band.
“That was the core group and then we’ve had a few external members come and go, but this group has been together quite a long time,” Tucker said.
“Doing these summer concerts is absolutely our favorite thing to do. It’s our favorite time of year,” she said. “We do a ton of private event concerts throughout the year, so this is a real treat for us to get in front of the public. We are just there to party, get everybody up and dancing and rock their faces off, basically.”
Sunday’s concert is part of the Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park Series, and will be the final performance of the summer.
This is a free concert for all residents of the community. Those planning to attend may bring picnic baskets, and lawn chairs or beach chairs that are low to the ground. Plastic tarps are not allowed because they kill the grass. Pets are also not allowed.
