DSB brings Journey to huge, happy crowd

A massive, enthusiastic crowd welcomed DSB — a Journey tribute band — to Hoyt Park on Sunday evening, June 10, for the first in a series of performances on the schedule of the Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park free concert series.

DSB, fronted by lead vocalist Juan del Castillo, did not disappoint. The sound of Journey hits pealed throughout the park and surrounding neighborhood. The acoustics were excellent and — as advertised — the DSB band performed Journey’s playlist to perfection, sounding exactly like the original recordings.

Del Castillo appeared to be enjoying himself and kept the crowd energized. It was an impressive performance that brought enjoyment to all in attendance, even those who were not necessarily fans of Journey. On this perfectly sunny evening, the familiar sounds of Journey were soothing — quite possibly making new fans for Journey and definitely creating fans for DSB.

The gigantic crowd remained festive, perpetuating a pleasant feeling throughout the event. The size of the audience is a testament to the success of the Scripps Ranch Symphony in the Park organization and a tribute to those who volunteer to bring about this success. These concerts not only remain popular but are growing in favor with each performance.

The next concert in the series will be The Heroes at 6 p.m. on July 15 at Hoyt Park. Visit symphonyinthepark.org.
