Local women share  a busy social schedule

By Denise Stewart

The longer days of summer provide even more time for members of the Scripps Ranch Welcome Club to enjoy the company of friends. At May’s monthly meeting the club members gathered to officially install Bev Macho for her second term as president, along with Sue Cauble as secretary and Anne Steele as treasurer. Two new board members took on positions: Sue Dunigan for programs and Sharon Hays for membership.

To celebrate the time and energy the board members contribute to the club, the at-
tendees enjoyed an ice cream social after the installation ceremony. Michelle Cyphers and Cecilia Waters arranged the combinations of ice cream and elaborate toppings for the delightful treat.

In addition to the book club meetings, hiking, craftmaking and gameplaying, May featured an outdoor coffee gathering under the trees at the Community Park. Marty Salkin, Michelle Cyphers and Barbara Wesser organized the breakfast brunch for the ladies to enjoy friendship in the spring air.

On the first Saturday in June, members will gather for a potluck supper at Alan Binks’s home followed by the group’s enjoyment of Scripps Ranch Theatre’s last play of the current season. The potluck dinner and the play are traditional activities on the club’s entertainment schedule and will continue next season under the supervision of Denise Forgeron.

The regular second Monday monthly meeting of the Welcome Club at the Community Center will feature a presentation by Babs Fry, a local pet rescue expert, on what to do and not to do if a pet is missing or a stray dog is encountered at large in the community.

Also in June, a morning Coffee hosted by Sharon Hays will gather the members for another event celebrating the friendly atmosphere of the Welcome Club. Another outdoor Coffee in July is already calendared.

July’s monthly meeting will bring new twists to the traditional evening Summer Supper. Instead of the members gathering at the Community Center and contributing salads to a potluck table, they will dine at the outdoor party room of Filippi’s Restaurant and be served Italian food.

An evening event known as a TGI will be coming up in July. A potluck enjoyed poolside will make for another splendid summer evening.
