Programs for youngsters at the library

June brings the start of the Summer Reading Program at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library and lots of fun, engaging and educational programs for children, teens and families – most made possible through funding provided by Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library (SRFOL).

Storytime

Every Wednesday and the first and third Thursdays,10-10:30 a.m. Appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers.

Cyanotypes with ArtReach

Thursday, June 5, 3-4 pm; ages 8+. Cyanotype is a form of image making with light sensitive material; a cross between printmaking and photography. Supplies provided, while they last.

Mini Movers and Music

Mondays, June 9 and 23, 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.; ages 0–5. Filled with creative movement, lots of fun music and dance games, this energetic and expressive Mini Movers and Music class will have your child learning age-appropriate dance moves, motor skills and rhythm.

Family Art Project

Thursday, June 12, 3 p.m. Make a fun and easy mixed media summer seascape! Visual artist Stacie Greene of Family Arts Collaborative will show how to add water, waves, palm trees and other elements to make your seascape beautiful. All supplies will be provided, while they last.

Pajama Signing Story Time

Tuesday, June 10, 6-6:30 pm. Pajama Signing Story Time with Jennifer Duncan of Signs at Play is a cozy and fun event for families with young children.

Craft Program with ToshWerks

Wednesdays, June 11 and 25, 4 p.m. Join local artists Toshwerks for a fun, hands-on DIY craft project recommended for ages 8 and up. All supplies will be provided, but online registration is required: sandiego.librarymarket.com.

Ralph’s World Music

Saturday, June 14, 4 p.m. Get ready for some incredible kids’ rock music, perfect for preschool and younger elementary-aged kids!

Introduction to Robotics

Saturdays, June 14 and 21, 2-5 p.m.; ages 8-13.  Students will be exposed to introductory engineering principles as well as lessons in 3D modeling using the free software, Onshape. Completion of this workshop will set students up for success in and foster a love for robotics, 3D design and engineering. No prior experience required. Bring your own personal laptop, if possible. Art Class with Art Smarts

Wednesday, June 18, 4-5 pm. Fun, exciting one hour art class for ages 5-17. Supplies will be provided but are limited; first come, first served.

Balloon Animal Workshop

Saturday, June 21, 11 a.m. Sparkles the Clown knows a thing or two about making balloon animals, and this workshop will allow her to teach you! All supplies will be provided, but online registration is required:  sandiego.librarymarket.com.

Michael Rayner Found Object Juggling Show and Workshop

Saturday, June 21, 3 p.m. Michael’s show has been described as “preposterous brilliance.”

Beginning Rocketry Workshop

Thursday-Saturday, June 26–28, 3-5 p.m.; ages 8-12. Everyone will leave this program with a core understanding of introductory engineering principles as well as a customizable rocket to launch. Must attend all three days. Registration required: sandiego.librarymarket.com.

Amazing Dana the Magician

Saturday, June 28, 3 p.m. Prepare for laughter and amazement as Amazing Dana weaves magic into the fabric of important topics. Enjoy the show and then learn how to perform some of the magic tricks!

Family Board Game Afternoon

Saturday, June 28, 2-4 pm. A fun-filled afternoon of playing award-winning board games for children ages 2-17 and their families! In partnership with Toy Hermit.

Kamishibai StoryBox Theatre

Tuesday, June 24, 6-6:30 pm. Presented by Write Out Loud San Diego, “StoryBox” is the American name given to the Japanese storytelling tradition called kamishibai, combining dramatic storytelling with a wooden theatre to showcase illustrations in a family-friendly story time experience.
