Scripps Ranch author publishes ‘Emotional Resonance Factor’

By John Gregory

Scripps Ranch resident Katy Goshtasbi has been through a lot in her life, and ascended to the heights of the world of law in the nation’s capital. But she was not fulfilled and set her sights on helping others struggling in the corporate world within American society.

Now she has published a new book, “Emotional Resonance Factor,” with the intention of helping career people, especially women, find their way and find fulfillment as professionals.

Goshtasbi immigrated from Iran in 1979 during the revolution with her family because they were not Muslim and had to get out of the country. She ended up in Indiana, USA, in the first grade where she wasn’t like any of the other children and didn’t speak English or eat the same foods at lunchtime. The other children were not exactly kind to her because she was different. So, as she grew up she worked her way through school and eventually became a lawyer because, she admits, that’s how she thought she would find her self-confidence and finally fit in.

Following a highly successful law career in Washington, D.C., she moved to California and practiced law again until she burned out.

“I just couldn’t find the purpose in practicing law anymore and to make a lot of money and make a lot of money for corporate clients,” Goshtasbi said. “So, I started a consulting business. … The business just grew and grew around me because I figured out that it’s about how people – professionals – get to figure out who they are, find their ideal self and then be able to sell that. Whatever that means – whether they are looking to get a promotion, looking to deal with their boss, looking to deal with leading their teams.”

She began to help her clients unleash their “emotional resonance” to improve their careers and their lives.

“In particular for women, it became the same journey I had been on. Where is my self-confidence? Where are you fitting in? How are you making sure you’re serving your purpose in the corporate world or in the business world or as a woman lawyer? Are you fulfilled and successful?” Goshtasbi explained.

“So, 15 years of coaching and consulting became this book. Four years ago, I had the whole content written in my mind,” she said. “So, I put it all in the book. It’s my program that I’ve been dealing with my clients for years.”

Goshtasbi wanted to share her insights with others. The first part of the book is a memoir about her life to add some perspective. The rest of the book is about the process and applying it. It’s about putting out a vibe, a frequency, and receiving an appropriate response from others. Yet there is an introspective aspect as well.

“It’s about connecting to ourselves authentically and connecting to our ideal selves, and that means acknowledging our emotions,” Goshtasbi said.
