Luncheons, games and theatre are among highlights

While Scripps Ranch Welcome Club’s monthly agenda is always full of activities that make it enjoyable to be a member, these autumn events have been particularly entertaining.

October began with a Garden Coffee at Janet Weigel’s home. That was followed by a lesson at the monthly meeting on how to decorate pumpkins with succulents for Halloween display. Then a special birthday celebration for Gadabouts Chair Pam Savelsberg took place at a favorite restaurant. And to bring members together again to share a potluck supper, Alan Binks hosted the group before a performance of the first play of the season at our local theater.

November started off at the Welcome Club’s monthly meeting by catching up with local romantic fiction writer Alex Kecskes about the publishing of his second novel. The new book continues the story of his first novel, “The Healer.” The main character is a beautiful woman who time travels and falls in love with a physician from the 25th century.

The Gadabouts group met mid-month to take a whirlwind journey through Europe with George Clooney in the movie “Jay Kelly.” While the free coffee the Angelica Theater offers at special performances is appreciated, after the movie the ladies went on to enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Before the second play of the Scripps Ranch Theatre season, Alan Binks continued his role as host for another Welcome Club pre-theater potluck. This combination of events always makes for a delightful Saturday evening for members and their escorts.

While these more special events highlighted the month, the new book club met again as did the three other groups of book lovers. Groups gathered in the daytime and evening to make crafts and play games.

The winter holidays are coming and so are celebrations. At the December monthly meeting a pajama party or a holiday sweater event along with a Golden Elephant gift exchange will be the featured fun. There will be another festivity at La Gran Terraza Restaurant for enjoying a Christmas buffet and carolers.

The website that the club maintains to make it easy for you to connect with someone who will answer your questions about this Scripps Ranch institution that has been making friends for more than 40 years is scrippsranchwelcomeclub.com.
