Sunday concert at the library

The Orvieto Trio will hold a free concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library.

The trio will perform works for violin, cello, and piano trio by Piazzolla, Smetana, Kapustin and Babajanian. The public is invited to enjoy chamber music in the intimate setting of the library's Community Room.

The trio includes Lauren Basney, violin; Daniel Frankhuisen, cello; and Dr. Byron Chow, MD, piano.

The members of the Orvieto Piano Trio met in 2009 during the Orvieto Musica chamber music festival in the Italian town of the same name. As happens regularly at such festivals, they found tremendous enjoyment in playing together and sharing musical ideas, but they also made the remarkable realization that three individuals from different corners of the country and at different stages in their careers could find the singular passion of playing to have revitalized each other’s love of performing to an even higher degree. It is the Trio's desire to share this passion with a wider audience and to ignite interest in the live performing arts that spurred them on to perform together upon returning to the United States. The musicians particularly enjoy reuniting for a series of concerts every January in San Diego when the rest of the country is in the throes of winter.
