The National Weather Service predicts these precipitation totals through Thursday Night.
Big rainstorms expected this week
This is the message from the National Weather Service San Diego this afternoon:
“2:30 p.m. radar update: It’s your turn, San Diego. Rain has overspread the northwest part of the county. Main rain band will continue to slowly push east this afternoon. Multiple reports of cars hydroplaning. Be like this rain band and SLOW. DOWN. Stay safe out there.”
A slow moving storm bands are reaching San Diego and the entire week will be filled with precipitation, according to the National Weather Service. Chance of rain the rest of Monday is 90 percent, and it’s not expected to get much dryer until Friday, which still has a chance of showers, according to the forecast.
Flash Flood Watch
In addition, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of Southern California, including inland valleys, from Tuesday, April 7, 11 a.m. until Wednesday, April 8, 7 p.m.
A slow-moving storm off the central California coast will approach Southern California and move inland late Tuesday through Wednesday. With high moisture availability and increasing instability, the threat for thunderstorms and heavy showers will bring areas of urban and small stream flooding, with isolated flash flooding possible as well from the coast to the desert areas.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding a very dangerous situation if caught outside on streets, highways or creek beds. Residents should monitor later forecasts.
