Monday library closure

The Scripps Miramar Ranch Branch Library is one of the 20 City libraries now closed on Mondays, as of Sept. 15, due to City budget issues.

Staff transitions

There has been a major turnover of staff at the library and most others citywide related to the loss of Monday library hours. The local branch manager, Phil Gunderson, has moved back to the Central Library where he will head up Access Services. The new local branch manager is Zeina Guion. The library also lost its Youth Services librarian and will miss Melissa Barbour who shared her enthusiasm and creativity with the Scripps Ranch community for seven-plus years. Additional staff changes also have occurred.

Upcoming closure and parking lot updates

The latest update suggests that the planned temporary clos-ure of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Branch Library for replacement of the roof and HVAC system will not occur until December or January. The closure is projected to last 8-10 months. Work on the lower parking lot, which has been suspended for the past 18 months, may restart in October. The parking situation will continue to be challenging until the parking lot expansion has been completed.

Grace’s Book Nook

The used bookstore in the Scripps Ranch library is staffed by volunteers and open Tuesdays through Saturdays during library hours. The Book Nook stocks a variety of nearly new books and media for adults, children, and teens with something to appeal to readers of all tastes at bargain prices. The next Second Saturday sale is scheduled for Oct. 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. It will feature an expanded inventory and shopping area. Shoppers are invited to take advantage of the reprieve from imminent temporary library closure and stock up on reading material for the long drought ahead. Your tax-deductible donations of gently used books are always welcome.
