Donate to help victims of Harvey
San Diego residents have traditionally been enthusiastic about helping victims of disasters in America, and Scripps Ranch residents are no different. Citizens viewing and reading about the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on a huge portion of Texas and Louisiana are understandably interested in helping any way they can.
The best way to help at this time is to donate funds to the American Red Cross. Visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Residents may also donate to the Salvation Army to support the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Visit helpsalvationarmy.org, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or text STORM to 51555.
A Houston fund has been established and administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation to accept tax-deductible flood-relief donations. Online credit card donations can be made at ghcf.org.
Apple has set up a donation link directly on iTunes and its App Store. Visit www.apple.com. Donations will go directly to the American Red Cross.
Those wishing to make donations are reminded to beware when making donations to avoid scams and fraudulent schemes designed to make money while posing as nonprofit organizations to benefit disaster victims.
