Grassroots protest is big success
A grassroots demonstration against social injustice, held in Scripps Ranch on Sunday afternoon, June 7, was peaceful and enthusiastic.
The event was held near the corner of Scripps Poway Parkway and Spring Canyon Road. Scripps Ranch residents Nadine Knowles and Pam Werner planned what they termed a “family stand,” organizing what was a peaceful demonstration from 3 to 6 p.m. along the sidewalks near that intersection.
The demonstration was in line with worldwide protests and a show of support for those demonstrating the past two weeks in recognition of the death of George Floyd, a black man killed during an arrest at the hands of the Minneapolis police on May 25, and all other similar injustices and discrimination, and working for change in the United States.
Participants were asked to space themselves between 6 to 10 feet from their nearby supporter; and were also asked to wear masks. The organizers stated that they invited police and that the event was meant to be family-friendly.
