Kersey supports local toy drive

Kersey supports local toy drive

District Five Councilmember Mark Kersey recently joined Becky’s Gift and local Scripps Ranch families at UCSD Moores Cancer Center to drop off more than 200 toys for kids, ages 1-16, who are undergoing cancer treatment during the holidays.

“There are families in our community who spend their time, energy and money on cancer treatment,” Councilman Kersey said. “It’s my pleasure to partner with grassroots toy drives like Becky’s Gift to collect and donate toys, making Christmas a little better for these families this year.”

Becky’s Gift was started eight years ago when longtime Scripps Ranch residents Becky Walton and Christie Jackson saw how difficult it was for others to experience the joy of the holidays while undergoing cancer treatment. The two called a few friends to help donate toys and now, eight years later, the community response has been huge, they explained.

Becky’s Gift has collected more than 1,500 toys this holiday season and distributed them among three cancer centers: UCSD Moores Cancer Center, The Oncology Associates of San Diego and South County Hematology and Oncology Center.
